Please pray for Chelsea
 
Chelsea collapsed this morning. She's in the hospital. :cry8:

The doctor ran an ECG and it's showing signs of a heart block. He had to give her atropine twice while I was there because her heart rate is dangerously low - it's under 40 beats per minute when it should be at least 100.

He's doing full bloodwork, a Superchem CBC I think it's called. He wants to rule out Addison's and anything else he can. The blood had to be sent to Dallas, so results won't be back until tomorrow morning.

They kept her to moniter her heartrate, etc. If she does alright today, he'll let her come home tonight but he wants her to have another ECG in the morning.

Chelsea is only 2 1/2 years old. Please, please pray for my baby.

I'm keeping Chelsea in my prayers that her results from the blood work come back with no problems. I also hope she will be able to go home with you tonight. I know how hard it is to have our furkids not well and we worry so much. If you need to talk to us, we are all here to listen. Please let us know how all is going.

Oh no Bonny....I am so sorry. :( You know I'll be keeping Chelsea and you in my prayers. This is so scary, bless your hearts!

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that little Chelsea has this problem. Keeping positive thoughts that she will be ok.

I can't stand this. I haven't even been home an hour and I'm already going out of my mind. I keep seeing Chelsea laying there, not moving or responding to me at all. She's normally my happy hyper little wild-child and I can't imagine her sick.

Praying for your baby Chelsea. I have a little 2 1/2 year old girl and I couldn't even imagine her going through something like that. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I'm a nervous wreck. I've started half a dozen chores and not finished any. My mind keeps wondering too much to focus and do anything. Chelsea is by far the loudest, most active one of my bunch and it's so QUIET around here without her. The others know that she's not here and that something's wrong. They're all trying to comfort me I think.

I called to check on Chelsea. She had another incident of her heart rate trying to drop not long after I left her this morning. They did something to bring it back up and she's been stable ever since. Dr. Haynes said she's perkier and alert now. If she stays that way he'll let her come home tonight. He mentioned keeping her there overnight, but I know I'll be awake all night worrying about her anyway, and I'd rather have her here with me. I'm less than 10 minutes away from the hospital and they have a 24 hour emergency center housed in with the hospital, so if anything happens I can have her there in minutes. I just need to hold her and see for myself how she's doing.

Dr. Haynes said his first thought was heart block, which was supported in large part by the ECG. But, he's also concerned that it might be Addison's disease. The bloodwork will determine whether or not it's Addison's. The heart block might be a little harder to diagnose definitively. Addison's is controllable by life-long medications. The heart block, also known as Sinus Block, can be controlled by medication depending on the degree and the dog's response to the medicine (usually atropine). Otherwise, a pacemaker is needed.
