Did your vet put him on any medication for the LS? You can call the office and have the lab results faxed to your home or a copy mailed out to you. We can help you more if we know what the pre and post prandial (pre/post meal) results are.

it is possible that he was misdiagnosed, i was told that my 12 week old yorkie had a liver shunt. the next day i got a second opinion and found out she had coccidia.... so a second opinoin wouldn't hurt! i'm sending prayers for you & gus that everything works out! best of luck!

Sorry to hear about your hardship.

A liver shunt cannot be repaired without costly vet bills, however some internet resources indicate that it is possible to delay the operation with a special needs diet.

Low protein plus specific medications might help. Have you discussed that possibility with your vet?
