| Itchy dog after boarding We went away last week and boarded Roxie for 4 days at the vet's office. She hasn't quite been herself since we picked her up on Friday. She seems to be scratching almost constantly. She also has been licking and biting at her front paws. She's been lacking in energy, and has not been as playful as usual. This morning I looked at her belly and I saw little red blotches. What on earth is that? Is this something that commonly happens after boarding, or is it most likely completely unrelated? I am going to call the vet when they open at 10, but I was just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the situation. FTR, she has been eating and pottying normally, and has had her Bortedella and Lyme vaccines.

| Fleas maybe? The little red blotches can be flea bites.

| The vet said it is an allergy of some kind, but he's just not sure what. He said it most likely is not her food, but something outside...maybe the grass or something in the grass. He gave her a steroid shot to calm the itching, and a spray to put on her feet or belly if she starts scratching really bad again. I hope she starts to feel better soon.

YT 3000 Club Member | the steroid will make her potty more and sometimes you can just rinse them off in warm water and that can help and if it is not too bed apple cider vinegar 50 / 50 mix with water can help |

| Have you bathed her since picking her up? She may be allergic to something they use to sanitize their kennels/runs, or if they bathed her prior to your picking her up, she may have picked up something there. This is assuming she had no problems prior to being boarded... She may be exhausted from itching... could be a mite or lice, fungal or bacterial infection.

| Why am I not surprized the vet said allergies? Why didn't the vet notice it while she was still there? My guess is "Fleas". If you phyically check her, you should be able to see the fleas. My granddaughter's dog picked up fleas at the vets during a check-up even w/frontline. Think I'd switch vets. Also, most vets keep the dogs in little wire cages & only walk the dog couple times during the day & before they close for the day. I really like my vet, but would never board my yorkie there. I'd give her a bath using whatever you've always used. How is she doing? |

| She is doing much better, thanks. She's not scratching or biting much anymore. Yes, I did bathe her after I picked her up from boarding. In fact, I didn't even put her down when we got in the door, I just took her right up to the bathroom! I checked her skin and fur very closely and didn't see any fleas or other insects. We have found ticks on her in the past, so I do make sure to check her carefully.
