Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | OMG I think Poppy's tail is broke?? Poppy has her long tail it has never been docked, Her tail was fine yesterday and when I put her to bed. She sleeps in her pen with her bed, pads ect. Anyway I woke up this morning (I was the first person to see her) and her tail is bent on the end I felt it and it wasnt just fur it was her actual tail bent. It mustn't hurt because she had no problem with me touching it but Im just wondering how the hell it happend Is this dangerous and is there anything that can be done? She bites her tail sometimes but I dont think she is strong enough to actually snap her own tail (shes 9 weeks old). She has an appointment at the vet on the 30th for her next needle and I was going to ask him about it then, but is there any help you can offer?

| The vet can try to set the tail but there's no guarantee that it will heal back perfectly. Just to be safe, I'd go ahead and take her in to be looked at. You wouldn't want to risk a possible infection or her causing further harm to it without knowing what's going on.

| I think a vet visit is definitely needed today. I've never owned a dog who broke their tail but my neighbors lab puppy broke his years ago. The vet (I believe) set the tail and it took quite a while for it to heal. Poor baby I hope she is not in pain and the vet is able to set it if it is broken.

| I'm glad you're taking her in. The vet may have some ideas on how it happened. Let us know what he says.

| Poor little baby, I hope she has no pain. If worse comes to worse maybe when she is spayed they can dock it just a little, to take off the broken end. |

| I can't remember where I heard or read, but I've seen it some where, not sure what type of dog but it had an anxiety or obsessive complusive disorder where it would mutilate it's own tail. Could she be chewing on it while in her crate because shes anxious or bored?? Im no expert of course. Just a thought |

I keep her in her pen when I am out with her bed, toys, pee pads and food + water bowls. She is never alone for longer then 2-3 hours at a time, I really hope she isnt mutilating her tail because of anxiety or OCD but I wont rule it out. I am trying to get her a vet appointment ASAP thanks for the help and I will update as soon as I have spoken to the vet (they re-open in 15minutes).
