Please help! My nightmare began 2 days ago with my Feebee walking with a head tilt which I presumed was an inner ear infection as she had this once before. I was already making plans to take her to the vet. Yesterday she started to walk in circles, lose her balance, and her right eye didn't appear to be moving much. My husband and I immediately took her to the E.R. The vet on call told us that she seems to have some sort of neurological damage and they began to do all sorts of tests. The vet mentioned it could be granulamatous meningoencephalitis, but we won't know for sure until the specialist sees her today. After we left our baby in the hospital last night, I immediately came home and began to look up GME. The prognosis doesn't look good from what I've read. Could someone please tell me if they've had any experience with this? This day will seem like eternity. Please pray for my baby... |
Prayers to you and your little one. Keep us posted and I will pray for you throughtout the day. |
Yes, please search this forum for GME. Also, on the Rescue forum; there is a story of a little dog named Roriee with GME; she is a very positive inspiration for you. I will pray for your baby and hopefully, someone will come along and post links for you since I still don't know how. There is also a Yahoo group for owners of dogs with GME that you will want to join. |

Here is a cut and paste of the 'Roriee' Thread in the Rescue forum. In the interest of those who are supporting Roriee and asking for updates, let's try another thread for our little girl! I have some positive news to share, but first - let's start off on the right foot.... The purpose of this thread is only for Roriee's health updates and progress, and to offer support to Roriee. We are hoping to keep Roriee's thread positive and on-topic because there are so many here at YT who wish to continue hearing of her progress and sending her goodwill. Admin and Mods support our request to keep this thread on-topic and I really appreciate your support in this! Previous Roriee threads can be located here for those who do not know her history. Roriee (AAI puppy) has had a major relapse! Roriee Updates Now, the good news..... As posted two days ago on the YHR site: 05/16/10 - Roriee is doing SO good! She has been walking around real good, wagging her tail a lot, and even lets out a single bark when the other dogs bark or she wants something. She gets excited when you come home and is wagging her tail waiting for you to pick her up and love her! She always looks at you with those big brite eyes and big ears, but isn't she so cute? She follows you anywhere you go, and if she loses your trail, all you have to do is talk and she figures it out. She has done amazingly well and keeps getting better, so please continue the prayers for Roriee. She goes back in around the 25th for her next chemo dose. Praying for Freebee |
Sending good thoughts for you and your little girl... |
Here's a link to links: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sit...inks-info.html Most are treatable. Sounds like Chiari. Most of the links you may pull up have older info... the newer info is that these diseases are treatable... so don't lose hope... but get her to a neurologist ASAP. |

How old is your baby ? These are symptoms of GME , Chiari and liver shunt. Chiari comes in many severities as does liver shunt. You should talk to your vet about all of these conditions. None are much fun, however all are treatable so don't give up, hopefully they will be able to make a quick diagnosis and get started on treatment so your baby can get on the road to recovery. |
The neurologist has confirmed that Feebee has GME after a battery of tests. They have begun treatment on her and will remain in the hospital for a few more days. Please keep the prayers coming for my baby. |
To search for any words that are too long or short for the YT search function, you can do it below. On all forum pages you can scroll down to the bottom and there is a Google search. Just click the circle for yorkietalk.com to only search this site. I'm very sorry about your baby. :( |
Im praying for Frisbee. Hugs to you hang in there! |

to OP: i'm glad you got a diagnosis on your pup. Dr. M and Dr. S at AERA are very good at what they do. Dr. M can be a little odd but she knows her stuff. the neuro techs are also great and will take excellent care of her. |

sending my prayers to both you & your baby.:hands: |
Hi, I have a yorkie named Brooke, that was diagnosed with GME in 2007 she has now been in remission and off all meds since late 2008. Please join the NewGMEDogs yahoo group, that is what saved my Brooke. Dr. Allen Sisson, a Boston neurologist, has a 90% success rate in getting dogs into remission. He has seen 1000's of cases, where other neurologists have seen a handful. If your little one is not on enough prednisone, she could be getting continued brain damage. She should not still be circling, if the correct dose was given. I emplore you to go join the yahoo site. You will receive a welcome message there that will explain GME and Dr. Sisson's protocol to you. I wish you luck and remission like Brooke and I enjoy. |
I'm sorry your little one is sick. I will certainly keep her and you in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |
