Right, Sentinel does not protect against tapeworms. There are two kinds of tapeworms. One kind comes from ingesting infected fleas, and the meds for that can only come from a Vet. The other kind, that can be treated with OTC meds, comes from ingesting an infected rodent. It may be a really big "ewwwwie" when you see them, but they aren't harmful to you. In order for you to get infected with the tapeworms, you would also have to eat either an infected flea or rodent. Your dog cannot pass them to you directly. So, no "easy diet" risk from your pup. It really is an easy fix, one shot or a couple of pills will clear up the problem. |
Oooh - speaking of worms - I just found Lucy chowing down on a huge, dried worm. EWWWW. I'm not calling her my little 'princess' right now! |

ok, I am walking around like a zombie!!! cleaned all the bed linens last night, washed all of my Maddie's beds.... really freaked when I found A LOT of dried WORM segments in one of her beds she sleeps in a lot.... dreamed of worms all night long mixed in with a couple of RachelandSadie's huge spiders and men in boxer shorts killing the spiders and worms.... yes, I do tend to have an overactive imagination !!! so now it's Sunday and only one day until I can get to my vet's office at 7:30 and get something to KILL these dastardly nasty WORMS. Dwerten, my Maddie likes to roll in dead stinky worms (and anything else dead or stinky) too. She immediately gets a bath and then pouts. My daughter always says she is mad because I was washing off her perfume!! I guess this is her way of paying me back! Try washing this worm off mommy! Gotcha! by the way, in case anyone is interested, time and all these wonderful responses have not helped.... My feeling is still ewwwwwww, ewwwwwwww, and more ewwwwwww |

dh said you need to get a worm cage as they get so big you have to catch them and make sure you have food as they get angry He said you need to open a bait shop too and make some money on the side |

oh gosh that one had me rolling there...:D and sorry to say you might have a bigger mess after meds. sometimes it causes runny BMs and yes the worms will be coming out. prob. dead but sometimes not....sorry it's not over after Mondays' meds. it's only beginning of the end. |
Actually once they take the pill, the worms break down in the intestine and you shouldn't see any "whole" worms in the stool. I didn't see any but I did catch Max's pretty early. You may want to give a bath after taking her medicine, you will see these "rice grains" stuck to her bum hair. Gross I know.. :) |

Are you taking any solace in the fact that most of us have been there at one point in puppyhood or another? I don't remember any big, huge worms after Casper had the medicine. I do remember lots of the rice looking dead things coming out. I don't think they were moving! Soldier on. This, too, shall PASS! |
