| Another tick question I just found a tick not on my puppy but on the couch. It's a size of a sunflower seed which by the way I thought it was some sort of seed and picked it up with my hand. Than I notice its tiny legs moving. It's barely alive though. After the first tick, I've been trying to be more careful. I just went through his coat with a fine comb but found nothing. I also checked his body for any marks but didn't see anything. He seems his normal self too. I'll be taking him to the vet tomorrow but has anyone found ticks like this before? I just spent over an hour vacuuming and what not but still feel bit uncomfortable. Any suggestions as to what you can do to "clean" the house? I don't want to use any chemical on the furniture that might be harmful. I uploaded the pic of the tick. It's not really good pic but can anyone confirm as to what type of tick this is? Thanks! |

| Hard to tell from your picture, but the body looks slightly engorged from bloodsucking. Was the back end a little grayish? That makes it more difficult for me to take a guess what kind of tick it is. |

| That does look like a tick that is engorged from being attached to a person or a dog. If it hadn't been, it would be flat and more of a black color on its back.

| You probably should have your vet give your dog a Lyme's shot and he may want to put him on anitbiotics just as a precaution. |

| The tics are absolutely terrible this year. Tics are very small and black when they have not been feeding, you have to look very closely for them. They like to attach inside the ears. I check ears daily. |

| Just wanted to update. Vet said he seems fine but keep an eye on him just in case. Magnus already had his lyme shot since I knew there were deer ticks around here. Btw, I think they're called some sort of "dog tick"? I looked all over the web to see if I could find the one I caught. http://webpages.charter.net/balplanman/_MicPix/Ticks/DeerTickFemales.jpg The one I caught was bit greyish and it did look little plump. But it's just weird that I found it on the couch instead on my puppy. I check Magnus regularly since his first tick incident so I would think I would've found the tick on his body instead. (not that I'm complaining about not finding any.. lol) Have you guys found ticks just laying about before? I spent HOURS cleaning the livingroom and kitchen afterwards. LOL |

| I have found them before, just crawling. They can come into the house on your pants, shoes etc. We live on a farm and have hay fields. We always try to check good before coming into the house. I had one that had attached itself to the back of my ear about 6 weeks ago. It freaked me out. I hate those things.
