Poor baby girl! How is Uni feeling today? It stinks when our little ones get sick and we can't ask them where it hurts. |
Hoping for a good morning report about Uni. :) |

I have one of these pill pushers - they work great! I got mine at Petsmart for a couple of dollars. |
Sorry to hear Uni isn't feeling well :( I'm right handed so when i have to pill a dog or cat i get behind the animal and grab the top of their muzzle with my left hand. My thumb and index finger are right behind the k-9s. I put the pill in between my thumb and index finger of my right hand. Then use the remaining fingers of my right hand to pull down the bottom jaw. I stick my thumb and index fingers with the pill in the mouth and as far back and down the throat as i can reach, then i kinda poke it more with my index finger to push it down further. after getting the pill as far down as i can i quickly close the mouth and hold it shut. then blow in the nose a little to make them swallow. If done correctly the pill is past the point where they can gag and use their tongue to spit it back up. or you can just get a pill popper. :D same principle - getting the pill as far back in the mouth/throat as possible except not using your fingers. i only use those on dogs/cats that are known to bite. just used to doing it with my fingers. |

Two ways you can do it - take a baggie inside out over your hand grab the poop fold over and seal or put it in the bottle - either way will work. Our vet has a stool sample bottle that has a scooper on inside of lid so you open scoop and put in bottle. I grab some when at vets office and keep at home in case of situations like this I have it ready to go but I think the baggie will be fine If she goes this morning get that sample better to get the most recent stool prior to going to vet I have a pill crusher, pill splitter all of which you can get at any pharmacy - the pill crusher pulverizes it really well. I have not tried the pill shooter thing but have seen those -may be worth i try as others are saying. |
Sorry Uni isnt feeling well hope she gets better fast. |
Awwww, poor Uni:( I hope she's feeling much better by this morning! Hugs! |
Checking in on Uni...hoping to hear good news. Sending good thoughts your way! |
I am just checking in to see how Uni is doing. |
I'm just seeing this thread... computter is sick... OMG! Uni.... you have got to get better.....real soon! My heart is so sad knowing you're not feeling well. Hugs & Kisses from your East Coast Wanna Be Mommie! PS: Tell your West Coast Real Mommie to ask her vet to sell her a pill- popper (they carry the really good ones). The rubber tipped ones won't hurt your throat either. (keep the pill and the business end of the popper dry... Metro disolves quickly, and the rubber tip will get too slippery to hold the pill) Or she could pick up some yummy chicken baby food to (close your eyes!) hide your pill in. Best to give a bite, w/no pill, yum.... then turn her back and hide the pill in the tiniest amount possible so you can not see her doing this, (ok open) then, a yummy second bite. Num nums. A weak (3-5%) bleach and water solution will kill any smell from the diarrhea, really quick. |
Update.... Well, there's bad news and good news. Good news is no parasites, and stool sample was negative. Bad news is Uni has mild pancreatitis. :( Her numbers came back a little high (amylase) 1237, and kind of high (Lipase) 1097, with high range of normal being 695. So the Dr said no more lamb (which she loves, and I guess I overdid it on her, my fault again:( ) too rich for her. He also said if she doesn't want to eat, don't force her bc she will eat when she wants, she is not prone to hypoglycemia. So, that means Uni is lose weight again. She is juuuust shy of 6 lbs, and at her self regulating weight she is only a hair over 5, so I guess she will just have to stay there. Still has not pooped today, just last night, which is good, diahreah is stopping. Ate only about a teaspoon or so of the a/d again. Took her for her regular walk routine and walked fine the first half, second half she walked really slow. Now she's sleeping on her hammock. So Dr said her case is mild enough to just be regulated with her diet. PS, whoever suggested the 2 spoons crushing method, thanks! I tried crushing it with just one spoon in the bowl and the pill slipped out and flew across the counter! :thumbdown Thank you all again for your thoughts. Uni should be back to 100% in a few days! |
Poor Uni. Hope she's back up and running soon. |
Pancreatitis is no fun. :( The A/D is extremely high in fat and should not be given to a dog with pancreatitis (unless vet said to). Hoping she gets better soon. :) |

I had to give Momo pepcid ac & I just melt it in a water bottle cap w/ little bit of water & he laps it up. Lol he eats anything! Another way (the vet tech taught me) is put some water in a syringe along w/ the pill & administer that way. Momo preferred to lap it up. |
Aw, I'm sorry, but glad it's not something more serious. Thor is also naturally pretty skinny, and I always want to fatten him up a bit. I guess the lesson is not to fight their natural weight. Hope you are back to fighting form soon, Uni! |
