Back from the vet with Uni... Well, Uni is not feeling well. She has not eaten since Sunday dinner (a very BIG dinner). So monday morning i was not surprised she did not want to eat. Then came around 5pm and still didn't eat. Hardly any water either. Then the yellow bile. She had pooped 2x already that day, first BM normal, at normal time. 2nd one way before schedule and was very soft. then when I got home she had diahreah very loose. :( I gave her one dose of diarsynal paste which usually does wonders. Didn't eat dinner either. Forced down some water for her, she was playing still but not her usual spunky self. During the night she got up 3x to diahreah. Bf woke up early this morning and said the diahreah had some blood in it. So I got up washed my face and off to the vet. My usual place is just a humane society, so they sent me to the full service hospital down the street. They recommend a blood panel to test for pancreatitis and poop test to test for parasites. Dr said he could do an xray to rule out an obstruction, but said not necessary as he didn't feel there was pain when he felt around her intestines/tummy area. I know she didn't eat anything she wasn't supposed to, she's super good with that. Since Uni would need blood test before I get her spayed, i decided to do the blood panel and poop test. However, there was not enough poop (since she had not been eating) so next time she goes I have to scoop it up and bring it back to them. Test results can come in as early as tomorrow morning, lastest by Thurs. I'm really hoping she doesn't have pancreatitis. Last time she got diahreah was last year, and I know what happened, ate a curry noodle that fell on the floor. :( That was my fault. Then when we got back to the shop, the parking lot was full (next door having a party). There was a potential client there talking with bf about maybe ordering a few costumes from me, so I am talking to him, and half telling bf what the vet says. After about 2 mins I ask him where is Uni. Bf says maybe she went to the back to lay down. He went to look and she wasn't there! I went outside and there are 3 ladies on the grass where Uni goes pee and she was there! She let herself out, cross the parking lot (busy remember!) bc she needed to poop again! She could have gotten hit by a car, or stolen! :( My fault again! :(:( Thank goodness she didn't get hit or stolen. I don't know why she went outside bc her pad in here is clean! Now she is just laying down next to me and I know she is just miserable. I gave her her medication and she drank some water on her own :) Still had to force feed her some Hill's a/d that they gave me, but literally only about a teaspoon. Sorry so long, I'm so sad, I hope test results come back good. Please keep Uni in your thoughts and send us some good vibes. Thanks, love you guys. :) |
so sorry :( what a rough day I would not force feed as she needs to rest her tummy. Dogs can go 5-7 days with no food when older and not a concern of hypoglycemia. Water is most important to stay hydrated and diarrhea is much more dehydrating than vomitting. She will tell you when she is hungry again as dex will start barking at me when he wants food after I rest his tummy so I never force him to eat if he gets an upset tummy I just let him rest and make sure he gets water. Hang in there and hopefully just an upset tummy |
Oh, poor Uni, I hope you feel better real soon. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Fingers & toes crossed. |
Oh I am so sorry that Uni is feeling bad. I hope the blood work comes back ok. Maybe just a tummy bug. Sending prayers for her to be better and it is nothing serious. |
Oh my goodness, Priscilla. My heart goes out to you. Poor Uni. Both of you will be in my thoughts. Sending you lots of good vibes. Try and get some rest tonight. |
Oh no, I hope your Uni is feeling well again soon. I know you must be worried sick about her. We are wishing for good news and a healthy, perky Uni! |
Aw poor little gal. Our paws are crossed over here for good test results. :) |
Will be thinking of you and Uni... |
I hope Uni is going to be ok, snd start feeling better. |
Sending Uni good vibes. I hope all will be OK with her and she will be back in good health soon. |
Sending Uni love and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Please keep us posted...big hugs :D |
I'm so sorry to hear that Uni is feeling poorly. Hope all turns out well Sweetie!! :big_hug: HUGS Uni!! |
Something similar happened to Louis over the weekend. He had diarrhea and vomiting. He wouldn't eat and you could tell he was in pain. I took him to the vet yesterday and he lost a pound from being sick. They treated him as though he had pancreatitis. He got a shot and medicine for vomiting and diarrhea. He is 100% better today. Hopefully everything will be fine with Uni. I know how scary it is when they are sick. Does the medicine seem to be working at all? |
One thing I forgot to add. The vet had me give Louis 1 tbs of rice and boiled chicken a few hours after I gave him his medicine. He wouldn't eat his food, but he did eat the chicken and rice!:D Today he is eating his dog food. |
Sorry to hear Uni not feeling herself..sending prayer for a speedy recovery Keep us posted |
Thanks everyone. The Dr gave me an antibiotic (Metronidazole/flagyl) and Famotidine (like pepcid). the pepcid is a tablet and she won't swallow it. I put it in a bit of food and held her mouth closed until she licked her tongue (trick I did with my cats before) and I thought she ate it, and I just found in her hammock, she spit it out and I didn't see. Any other tips on how to get her to swallow it? Or else I can crush it and put it in some food and scrape the food off the top of her mouth? Should I try to give her another one or just wait till next dose time? |
Keeping Uni in my thoughts, I hope everything turns out okay! |

Can you just put famotidine in her mouth and then close mouth hold muzzle up and massage throat to get her to swallow it? It will help control stomach acids |
Hope Uni gets well soon:animal36 |
I really hope it's nothing serious and she recovers quickly!!! :( :( :( |
Sorry Uni is not feeling well. Hope she feels better soon. The flagyl usually works pretty quickly on my girls when they have a tummy upset. |
Oh no! Poor Uni! I saw 'Uni' in the title and freaked out. Hopefully it's just a tummy virus and she will be back to herself in a few days. I hate seeing them sick, when there's not much you can do, ya know? :( I'm thinking of Uni, keep us updated. :) Also, how do you go about getting Care Credit? I'd love to have something like that just in case. Is it like pet insurance, or no? |

it is great to get in case of emergency as always easier to get money when you do not need money and much harder to get when you need it. I encourage everyone who has a pet to get this. It can extend cost at no interest for up to 18 mos depending on cost of bill but not all vets or specialists accept it but when they do it is great |
I am sorry that you and Uni had such a difficult day, Priscilla. Do hope she is feeling better by tomorrow and that the lab tests come back ok. :) |
Oh no! Poor Uni. Feel better soon. Kaji sends lots of kisses. |
I hope she is feeling better soon. That's so hard to see them sick.:( You could crush the pill and add a tiny bit of water, suction it up into a dropper and put it down her throat. |
I hope Uni is feeling better! |

I just crushed it and put it in some food, but then she didn't eat all the food. Only about a teaspoon and a few tiny pieces of chicken.:( |
