are you sure this is not spine related? When you say wobbly how so? Do you notice it in her legs? You are correct tramadol is for pain only and metacam has anti-inflammatory in it and tramadol does not. I am ok with just giving for pain as the inflammation will go down if you rest them. So if pain is your concern tramadol will work for that. If you do the nsaids any vomitting or diarrhea stop immediately and give mid meal to be safest. |
Oh gosh. If she doesn't start getting better, could you just go back to her LP surgeon? |
I think it's chicken. Forgot I boiled TJs chicken last night (2 times I boil it). Was putting it away and gave them each a tiny tiny piece. Cpl test came back neg. He showed it to me. One dot was dark blue and the other dot was medium blue we are home now and she ate fine. I am not putting the shredded reduced fat Colby/Jack cheese on her food any more. I put the famondine pill in her food, gave her the metro and she is stalking me for my cereal. She seems a lot better. She is walking around ok. But just made her trot or walk faster to me for a cherrio and she has a slight limp, not sure whic side or even if it's front or back holding off on pain meds for right now. I would like to see if she gets better just from the S and F I am going to stay home today with her |

so bummed - how old is she? DD will be 6 next month and just wondering if arthritis starts to set in at that young of age :( Glad it was not pancreatitis as really did not think she was exhibitng those symptoms |
Her bloodwork if perfect, liver emz are completey normal. So right now, only her post bat is high (60 to 85) range. So I don't know what to do if she needs meds for LP - could she benefit from the anti immflam in Metcamp? Or why risk and just go for the T??? IDK |

Have you ever given her an nsaid like metacam, rimadyl or deramaxx before? |
The sucralfare I have to give 30 mins before food. Vet said to give the Famotidine w/food. But I will call to double check. My gut is telling me stomach/gi/gas bc she was so obvious this morning, then she pooped and she was 50% better. Now 3 hours later, and having the S and F and M she is like 90% better I just don't know if I would see all this improvement if it was LP arthritis??? She will be 6 in. Nov |
I'd hesitate very much to give NSAIDs to a symptomatic liver compromised dog. And if I remember right, she didn't have neuro symptoms, but she do have other symptoms. Can you talk to her specialist (the one who did the U/S) about this? The anti-inflammatory may be needed, so I won't say not to use it. There may be other others though. |

I agree if she is feeling much better after meds probably not the LP trust your gut and watch the signs. sulcrulfate (carafate) - ok just read notes from ims on sulcrulfate and dex weighed about 9lbs then - 1/4 tab (250mg) orally as a water slurry 3xs a day - remember that this medication should IDEALLY be separated from other foods or medications by 1-2hrs is what the ims said for dex. At this hospital they have a girl Michelle who is awesome and all she does is handle medication - she is the expert there on all meds so I always call her as well as she is very sharp. |

The makers of NSAIDs for pups make it very clear that they are not okay for liver ocmpromised dogs. They should only be given if your vet thinks it is absolutely necessary. When in doubt, ask the internist. The limping is throwing me, but it sounds intestinal to me. It sounds like she is filing with gas and then feels better after gas relief is given. The question is why? I think if it continues, you may need to see a specialist who can figure it out b/c being gassy and bloated is not at all healthy and I would just hope it doesn't turn into something more serious. Has she been diagnosed with IBD? No, right? |
