Hi, I just read your post. I gave my dog one hard boiled organic egg and started a new bag of treats. She started having loose stools...first brown with slime, then darker in color and loose, then a lot of blood like rasberry jam. Her stools have been different colors ... from dark to light brown but this escalated into bright red bloodly pool of feces. I rushed her to animal hospital on Sunday evening. They did basic tests but did not test feces for HGE or Clostridium Perfringens. Charged me 632.00 and could not tell me what was wrong and did not even take an xray. I am so upset. They gave me an antibiotic which she has had 3 doses of but still this morning I had very dark brownish loose stool. Please Help. Can you tell me what Antibiotic your vet gave you that might have helped. What could have caused this? My dog is active as ever, drinking and eating and playing and very happy. The vet said the dog had no pain in stomach so probably did not swallow anything so she did no xray. I need advice or even a contact number if you wouldn't mind.... I am going a bit crazy. My dog's PCV level was slightly elevated but protein was fine. My dog had some vomiting but none in the past 24 hours. She has been on a bland diet of plain chicken breast and rice. Hi there! Welcome to yorkie talk... this thread is about 4 1/2 years old so it's possible u won't get a response from the OP BUT there are a lot of helpful people here! That being said....antibiotics can cause loose stools. There could be many reasons for her tummy troubles. Food, Something she should not have eaten, etc etc. I know you did spend a lot at the vet....but if you are still concerned and if it were me I would take all test results etc and get a second opinion. Did your vet recommend probiotics? That really helped Winnie when she first came home and with the continuous tummy troubles she had with finding the right food for her! She had an infection in her intestines suspect from the food she was on from the breeder being too much protien for her. I am sure you will start getting some more advice! I hope your pup feels better soon! We all know how stressful it is when your pup is not feeling well!
