| Abdominal swelling Last Thursday, I took my 4 yo female (Amelia) to the vet as she was having tummy issues and seamed bloated. She was eating good and no vomiting. They checked her blood, found no bacteria, eletrolytes OK, blood chemisty OK, CBC OK, total protein OK. They said she only weighed 2 oz more than her last physical in Feb, so no big concern there. They put her on metradiozole. When we woke up Sunday, she looked like she was pregnant. Yesterday the vet removed 400cc of fluid and did an ultrasound. The fluid was clear with no no protein, no organ cells, a small number of RBC cells. Ultra sound showed the organs looked good - heart OK, liver OK, etc. There were some pockets of fluid, but otherwise good (no masses or cysts). Her temperature was normal. The vet sent the fluid and some other samples to a local company for a more thorough cytology and should have the results soon. To make things worse, she is filling up with fluid again in her tummy, yet seems her usual exuberant self, running around the yard and bossing everyone around. Have any of you experienced anything like this? Any ideas as to where this fluid might be coming from or suggestions for good websites to check out? I am clueless, but ready for a long night of reading online!

| No idea, but I hope the Vet gets to the bottom of it and that it is not serious. Unsually fluid will build up around joints from inflamation and sprains. But clear fluid in the stomach stumps me. You did the right thing by getting her in the the Vet fast. Best of luck. I am sure there is a lot of info out in the Al Gore WWW. |

| Yes she has been spayed, two years ago. I rescued her from a backyard breeder.

| There was another member who's little girl had the same symptoms. It wasn't that long ago. I'll look for it too.

| Thanks so much for the link! Sounds very similar to Amelia except she does have diarrhea. She is also still very active and normal - well for her anyway. haha. I will read more about lymphangiectasia and talk to the vet in the morning. Thanks again!
