Chance is very lucky to have found you. What is wrong with people?!! I hope these people who had him have ringworm just as bad. I cannot imagine that as bad as Chance has it, it would not have been all over the house. That would be karma!

Let me know what you would like to do about the collar. I have someone who would like contribute one for Chance so he can be more comfortable.

You are wondeful for taking him in. Hugs, Bo

LilMissy 05-21-2010 11:17 PM

Poor Chance, my goodness I can't believe that someone would let him get like that. I am so glad that you are helping him. What a kind person you are. I can't wait to see more pics and hear about Chance's recovery.

Rizzo's mom 05-22-2010 07:44 PM

Can anyone help me with this thread?

Does anyone know how to link 2 threads together? Once I get Chance and start working on his physical recovery from this ringworm I would like to connect this thread to the discussion for sick yorkies because that applies also for anyone else facing this issue.

Should be getting Chance tomorrow came down real sick yesterday-bam just hit me like a ton of bricks. Too sick to make the one hour + drive to get him. I have been in bed yesterday and most of today. Got on here for a few mins. going stir crazy......I HATE BEING SICK! Taking all my herbs though will get well real quick.

Until tomorrow my sweet Chance..........

You want to start a new thread about him? Why don't you just ask for this one to me moved to the Sick forum? Good luck tomorrow. :)

 I hope whoever let him get this way and then dumped him off...has the same condition or even worse. They deserve worst! Can you imagine the type of home he lived in? It had to be filty, nasty, and pathetic!

To the OP: Bless you for taking him in and please be careful. I wish you the best!

Tae1107 05-23-2010 06:48 AM

Oh...the poor baby. I am so happy that you are getting him!

anniernc 05-23-2010 06:33 PM

Bless his little heart and bless you for taking him in and caring for him. The little girl of mine that was rescued from a shelter and given to me by my vet to foster (she is mine now) is the sweetest little dog. She was just so happy to have a home with people to love her.

dogbert 05-23-2010 06:38 PM

My heart breaks for him. He deserves a decent life from here out he's had a rough start.

Rizzo's mom 05-24-2010 03:54 PM

How do I do that?

How do I do that? ask that it be moved? Explain......I want all that are following his recovery to know where the story is but all the treatment to be documented for those with a ringworm problem.

OMG A Little Greased Yorkie in a Blanket for Ringworm!

Well we picked up Chance yesterday from the Shelter all I can say is I knew he was bad with full body ringworm but he is really bad. I have a pretty strong stomach and I am pretty tough ( I raised 2 boys) but when I saw Chance's ears I lost it. :cry:His ears are crusted completely shut with what feels like cement. Completely unacceptable! He looks like the elephant man with all the crusty bumps, scales etc. He absolutely stinks with a yeasty smell this poor baby.
The first night I greased him down from head to toe with virgin coconut oil. This morning he looked a little better with hunks of skin dropping off. The inside of his ears soften up but still shut.
Then I talked with my sister who worked for a prominent dermatologist here in Silicon Valley and she advised me to grease him up with Crisco- that is what I said? say what? :confused:well I did that today greased him from head to toe and wrapped him in saran wrap ( that was a challenge) and put him in a baby long nightie that I got at the salvation army to keep him warm. So will see how he has improved by tomorrow....I love this little guy already what a trooper!

Oh Dear God who would let a dog get into this condition ! That poor poor little guy - the pictures (& his ears) say it all.....:(

I want to wish Chance and YOU all the best - you're an angel for getting him and giving him something he deserves - CARE and love

It makes me sick to think how long he's been suffering

ladyjane 05-25-2010 03:27 PM

Oh my...thank you for saving this precious baby! He will be good as new in no time...cannot wait to see the progress! :)

kalina82 05-25-2010 03:31 PM

are you sure he just has ringworm? have they taken a skin scrapping and culture on him? with the smell i would assume he has a horrible yeast infection all over as well. while reading what you were describing it made me think of this one dog i had to do bandages changes on. the skin was gray and elephant like, plus scaley, scabby, smelly, flakey, and just plain gross. she didn't have ringworm but definitely had some other funky full body infection. if he hasn't been already, i recommend taking him to a dermatologist to get his skin thoroughly checked for other skin problems.

this may have been mentioned already but what test was done to diagnose the ringworm?

I had wondered the same thing. I had a pup with a nasty yeast infection and he had all elephant looking skin. His treatment was antibiotics as he had a bacterial infection as well and bi weekly shampoos with a warm water and vinegar rinse (50/50). I thought it was a bit odd, but trusted the vet and sure enough it worked! His before and after pics are here:

If your vet is not really into skin issues, I also recommend a dermatologist.

kalina82 05-25-2010 03:53 PM

Sadly, my Cody passed away in August 2009. Those pics are from 2005 and 2006. He also had renal issues when he came to me, but he had a happy life until he passed. He would have been 13 in October 2009, so he did have a long life. The man who had him before I got him was elderly and just could not take care of him. I loved that little guy so much...he had a personality that just would not quit!

aw i'm sorry to hear that. You did a fabulous job with him and he looks very loved and well taken care of with you

dogbert 05-25-2010 04:53 PM

I am following this little rescue I hope you keep us updated often. Not everyone would take in an animal in such condition. He will love you for saving him and he deserves to be saved. I am still a little confused about the oil and wrap is that to suffocate something like scabies?

TwoforFun 05-25-2010 05:09 PM

Wow, he looks so pitiful makes my stomach turn inside out. I do hope those people/person got infected with the fungus also.

And then to top it all those poor cats. RIP KITTIES

But it shows that Chance really has a second chance in life, actually third.

You are his angel, thank you.

yorkieusa 05-25-2010 06:10 PM

It won't hurt him to be wrapped in Saran wrap?

ladyjane 05-25-2010 06:19 PM

I am curious as well about this crisco and saran wrap treatment...exactly what is that treatment for?

How was the ringworm diagnosed? Is this saran wrap for that?

Yes this was done at the vets office that works with the shelter to confirm that it is ringworm. they did take skin cultures for a diagnosis. He is on an oral anti-fungal is smells yeasty....It is so gross this poor little guy is so sweet he does not deserve this....

You bring up some good points. Actually he will be going to the vet that our rescue uses in a few days to get his opinion for additional care they mentioned Lyme baths 2X week. But I want his ears flushed with an anti-fungal solutions to clean them out once I open them with softening of this crud that is hard as a brick. Can you imagine your ears being blocked shut?:( The shelter vet did do skin cultures and confirmed ringworm which is not a worm but a fungal infection....

Oops forgot to say thanks for great before and after pics. How long of a span where they taken how many months?

ladyjane 05-26-2010 12:05 AM

Those pics were taken a year apart. He started to clear in about two weeks but it took a while to get his coat back. I was amazed.

I hope they are encouraging to you! I will bet that Chance will be a beauty like my Cody. I always said he was like the little duckling that turned into a swan.
