Worried about Layla

That's what we thought about the painkillers too! She was completely zonked out and didn't move her head when I touched her front paws where I KNOW she has feeling. So when she flinched her back leg when Scott squeezed her back paw... I really thought that meant something. And I know my dog and I know that she has never flinched her tail as a reflex when I'm playing with her toes. But they say it was just a reflex.

I asked God this morning for a sign. And that phone call definitely wasn't a good sign. I just need to feel better. I had to sit down so I didn't pass out at the vet's office last night. I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't concentrate on anything.

I know it's hard, but try to keep a calm demeanor. You don't want Layla to feel that you're anxious as she will then be uncomfortable. Try to keep positive thoughts in your mind. Believe she will regain sensation and believe that she will walk again and be her usual lovable self. See it in your mind, and you can see it for real.

when my friends dog was in the coma they kept her sedated to stop the seizures after that so the meds play a big part - i questioned the sedation for so long as did another specialist - as they weened her off the drugs she slowly came out of it and never had another seizure. My friend called me crying every day saying she just layed there with her tongue hanging out and looked lifeless. She is totally fine now so some dogs react to drugs differently as do humans and it has not been enough time

keep reading and learning - have you joined any yahoogroups.com regarding neurological conditions or spinal conditions ? if not join them as well as those groups are some sharp people and have been through it as well - the more info and stories the better as i am sure there are some positive ones too

Linz I wish I could give you a HUGE hug!!! with the week almost over is there any way you can take tomorrow off work? Maybe a little retail therapy for the new house may be just what lifts you up a little....
Even if its just a little inexpensive trinket.

There's nothing you can do that will make you stop worrying when you're in a situation like this. I know the feeling of hopelessness you feel cause there's nothing you personally can do for layla( except pray). But you ARE doing all you can for her. You gave her a chance with the surgery, you're keeping her in the hospital. You and the medical team are doing all they can for her.

Up until this week, you have given layla a GREAT home with LOTS of Love.
You've had good fun times with her. Hopefully you'll have more in the future. The best thing you can do for Layla is keep the faith, stay positive expect a MIRACLE. Stranger things have happened right? BELIEVE she will make a full recovery. Stay strong, be sure to take care of yourself so that you'll be strong enough and healthy enough to take care of Layla when the time comes.

You've got lots of prayers here going up for all 3 of you.

I just read this whole thread with tears streaming down my face. I am so sorry that you are going through this with layla, but I believe in miracles and God knows that you need one now for layla. I am praying for a miracle! My heart goes out to you bc I know how upsetting it must be for you.

One more hour and we will be on our way to visit Layla again. I have been reading about animal miracles all afternoon to regain my hope! If we can talk to her doctor tonight I will ask how soon acupuncture can start because I think it is something we want to do for sure.

Thank you very much Audrey! I just looked up visiting hours on weekends and there's TWO times we could go... 10-11:30 am and 5-7 pm. I wonder if they'd let us visit her twice a day? I guess we can ask tonight.

If you want to spend more time with Layla, just insist that you will be there twice a day on the weekend. Your emotional health counts too. I am sure that unless there are procedures that they are doing with Layla, that it will be ok. Better for Layla to have you there as well, it gives them a boost of strength and courage when mommy comes for a visit.

I will be there as much as I can be there. I love her SO MUCH and it worries me that she's not improving but I will give her all the time she needs. I just read on another forum about one little dog who regained deep pain sensation after OVER 4 MONTHS! The doctors said after a couple of weeks that she would never walk again, but they kept going and kept trying physical therapy and other treatments and one day she started reacting to touches on her feet!

Layla is coming home no matter what and we will keep working with her and encouraging her forever. I want to believe her "reflexes" last night were a sign that she's letting us know she'll be okay, she just needs time to work on it.
