So what has Layla been up to this past week?:) |
I have been following this story from the beginning. I'm not good at always responding and I apologize for this, but her wagging her tail just made me cry with joy!!! I too believe this is your sign to continue with this...Wow, you need to really write a book about you and Layla's journey!! |
Hey guys :) We haven't had any more "wag for joy" moments, but I'm believing that it was a connection for a moment and it will come back again! As for what she's been doing lately, lots of scooting around the house! Lol. We stayed overnight at my grandma's house on Tuesday and I took the day off work Wednesday to just hang out and shop :) Layla had the best time visiting grandma! She has a matching area rug so she just loved hangin out on the carpet all day. And she took a few afternoon naps with grandma while I was out shopping :D On Tuesday night, she somehow crawled right inside our overnight duffel bag to sleep! But, she accidently pooped in it too. Lol but at least Scott took out his dressy work clothes before we went to bed! :p |
That's great news! And a pretty funny story about her pooping in the duffel bag:D:p Isn't that a good sign if she's doing it herself though!? I'm so excited for you, Layla and Scott! Hooray! |
It's not a real sign until she's able to hold it. With poop, it just comes out when it gets close lol. We express it to avoid it coming out at inopportune times, but I guess she had a little more in her that night! At least she lives up to her "little stinker" nickname :D |

Did you ever thinking of writing your story for Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul? It's so inspirational! |
I would love to write it for something for sure! I love to write and this is the best thing I think I could write about. I actually started reading Chicken Soup for the Soul: Things I Learned From My Dog, the night Layla went to bed not acting quite right. The next night she was paralyzed. I only finished it about a month ago, so it got me through some trying times, reading about other dogs who have beaten the odds and their families who have loved them :) |
I've read Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul about 4 times lol. I need to invest in the second one, or the one that you said. I love inspirational dog stories, and Layla's is so inspirational. Whenever I get another email with your response to the thread describing a new milestone in her recovery I get so excited. I think you have a HUGE following on YT and we would all buy a book with Layla's story in it! |
Awww thanks! I am so SO lucky to be a part of a forum like this! I joined when I first got Layla and lurked for so long and never really got involved to the point of people really knowing us... but then this happened to us, and it's just so overwhelming how many showed us support and still love and care for Layla after all this time. I really don't feel like I'm in this alone! You're all the best! |

I totally agree, and I'd buy your book in a second--for me and a few others who I know would love it. I didn't know about the newest dog Chicken Soup book. I've read about ten of the series including the Pet Lovers and Dog and Cat Lovers Soul. I haven't seen it in a bookstore, and I often look in the dog section. Thanks for the tip. I look forward to reading more anecdotes about Layla. |
I'm happy to hear about Layla anytime! I think of her often. I think it's cute she gets to spend some time with grandma! I suppose you will both survive an initiated duffel bag though. You've done so well with everything else.:) |
Layla is always in my thoughts and prayers...she's my inspiration to keep on keepin' on, you know? |

She has been doing very well lately, and continues to be strong and stand up every once in awhile, although we haven't taken her to rehab in over a week now. We're training her to stay in her carrier in the backseat, because it's just not safe with her carrier on my lap if the airbag happens to go off. And now that it's winter here and roads are icy, I don't want to chance it. I've been ignoring her cries and she does quiet down eventually. We actually drove over 2 hours away this weekend and she was really good for the trip! Woohoo! I also set up a new corner for her in our living room. We had a big blanket for her in the corner which was kind of an eyesore, so I brought down her old tent that she was never interested in. I lined it with a fleece blanket, put her food and water bowls inside, and her bed in a corner. Then I bought a cheap bath mat so she had something outside the door to grip the floor on her way to the area rug. She LOVES it! She sleeps in there all evening while we watch tv. She was never ever crated in her life, but since she went down and we've had her carrier and crate, I think her "den" instinct has really come out. |
It's great to see how well Layla is doing.....I'm sure she does love her new "den"....sounds like a nice place to relax for her. As for her being an inspiration .... she definitely is. I would love to see her story in the "Chicken Soup" series. It is a must read love story!! |
