davinci might have AAI i am so scared, someone please help us. does anyone have experience with AAI? i think davinci might have this. i took him to the vet yesterday and the vet didn't know what's wrong with him, thought it might just be pulled muscle. i have been doing some research and i think it might be AAI, i am very scared. i am going to contact the vet's office again, but my regular vet is on vacation. do we need to see a specialist? davinci is in pain and he cries and we all cry with him, but i am trying to stay strong and do what i need to do for him. the vet told me yesterday he needs to sedate davinci to take x-rays, but can i just let this vet take x-rays? or do i need to find someone with experience in this. i don't want a vet to break davinci's neck due to inexperience. what should i do, can someone please help us! |
Oh, I'm so sorry!! PM BlueBoyBarber - Vicki went through this with her baby and he made it through fine. I've seen her other posts where she's offered great advice. Good luck!! |
I'm so sorry to hear DaVinci is still not better. What is AAI? Remember, our minds tend to go to the worst possible scenario... try not to worry too much before you get a definitive answer. |

I'm so sorry. :( I didn't realize he was still in pain. I'm about done with what I have to do... so PM if you want to. Did you find a good symptoms list? If you really suspect this, then he should not be allowed to run, jump, play, etc. He needs to stay very still until you get him in for an xray. He will have to be treated like glass until it is ruled out. I'm sure some general DVMs do the xrays, but I'd have to be convinced that they know what they are doing and have done it before... It may be best to find a specialty hospital in the area. Hopefully they can rule AAI out and then find the problem. |
That does look scary... maybe you can call your breeder and ask, since this is a genetic defect? According to the website, for small dogs, often all that is needed is a neck brace and some rest, so even if this is the right diagnosis, it's not the end of the world. Sorry, I don't have any experience with this, so I can't give you advice on whether you should go to a specialist or take xrays. When does your normal vet get back? |

Looked it up...no sedation. Not sure if buprenorphine would work for this type of pain. I haven't really seen it used in ortho. |
Oh I'm so sorry to hear this, I know you tried so hard to find a good breeder. I don't know anything about this problem; I know your heart must be breaking. Stay strong, I'm sending a million prayers your way. I really wish there was more I could do, we have lots of great people here that can give you advice. I think I would talk to the vet again and mention this to him and ask him his opinion. Maybe he might be able to tell you something that you could rule this out. If the vet can't rule this out, I would find a specialist. How's Davinci today, still in pain? |

You might check out this thread... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...hair-mats.html The OP's baby also has AAI and in the thread she posts a link to a blog that chronicles the journey! |

IMO ~ I would call your Vet and get a referral to a Neuro Specialist. With AAI-AAS pups, time is critical, and you MUST treat the pup as if it is a China Doll - very fragile :( |
PLEASE get in touch with either BabyBear (Val) or BLEUBOY (Vicki) ~ they BOTH have AAI babies and they will help and guide you... |
Yen, just got your message and sent you another reply, my friend. Know I'm thinking of you every minute. Sending love to DaVinci. |
I agree with the others. Please contact Vicki/Bleu Boy Barber. |
Sending you prayer's to guide you in finding the answer's for DiVinci. I can't be of help any other way. Hugs, |
davinci is gone. he started running backwards in circles in his crate, i rushed him to the vet, they could not revive him. they took x-rays, and the vet is going to have other vets look at it and tell me what happened. i loved him so much, i want to know what happened to my baby. why? |
Yen, I am SO so so sorry :( :( :(. I feel foolish saying these words, they feel meaningless. I'm at work, in tears. I send love to you, Jer, Milu, and the bunnies. DaVinci was beautiful and loved and precious. |
