He is doing ALOT better. I just gave him his 3rd dosage. He has to take it 2 times a day along with benedrill. I can already see him not bowing his nose or sneezing as much. He never got bad tho...even with it he was playing fine eating fine and was totally normal I just knew he had a cold for a week and it was not going away but he is bring treated and looks like he will be ok. The vet said he could of just caught it from anywhere.

So for the insurance you have to pre pay it then send something in to get your money back?? Thats rediculous!! Wow I cant believe that. What do you think would be my best bet with all that insurance stuff with him. My vet told me I should def get it.

Yep! You have to pay your vet, then send in your pets statement with a diagnosis then you'll get reimbursed. And at times these insurance companies will decide, based on the diagnosis that they aren't going to reimburse you. So, your vet will have to intervine, write a letter explaining the situation.

If you choose to go the insurance route. Do a lot of research. There are some that will cover genetic disease. But, in order to do so it is something that would crop up after a pup has had a physical. If your deciplined you just might put away money in an emergency account for those emergencies.

You may know this, but one mistake many people make is that when antibiotics are given the whole amount must be used, even if the dog or human is doing better. The doctor always tries to give enough to kill off even the remaining stubborn bacteria, and many times people stop it as soon if the dog appears to feel better. The problem with this is that those remaining bacteria start multiplying and they are slightly resistant to the antibiotic; so another stronger antibiotic has to be given next time. So always use the full dosage until the bottle is gone. This isn't true of benadryl or pain medications, only antibiotics. Glad he's doing better!

ok ill be sure to finish off the entire antibiotics. I had planned to already but reassurance is always great. Thanks guys

yep 100% agree and when skin issues many vets do not give for long enough as skin takes 25 days to kill a staph infection and sometimes longer so has to be given until 7 days beyond the date no lesions are on skin as skin infections are much harder to kill than internal and many vets only give for 10-15 days and they come back with a vengeance. Always complete antibiotics and it is not a bad idea to do probiotics for 2 weeks after antibiotic is stopped to pump up the body with good bacteria to balance the gut

my friends dog has gme and she is really happy with the akc pet insurance so check that one out as they have paid alot of the bills

another friend of mine has 6 dogs and she has spent over 50k in vet bills and she put them all on Pet health insurance for your dog or cat, from a name you can trust - 24PetWatch Pet Insurance and she has been very happy but they will not cover pre-existing though

make sure to ask if they will not cover things specific to breed as i looked into it 4 years ago after spending alot when dex had pancreatitis and vpi told me they do not cover things in the akc and vet medical journal that are tied to a breed so they may not have covered pancreatitis anyway and why i opted out of getting insurance so not sure they are the best to deal with be the top two my two friends are very happy with. GME is very expensive to treat as they have to work with neurologist and they get mri and spinal taps which are expensive and she said hey are covering the majority of the bills and she is the director of respiratory therapy at our near by hospital so she knows alot about health care etc. and swears by that one

The only insurance I've had is through the AKC, I've had plenty of problems with them reimbursing me, and had to have my vet intervine on more than one occassion.

wow that stinks good to know as she has had huge vet bills from glendale specialty and never had a problem :( dang not good - i just chose to save up separately but sometimes regret not having it :(

I've been reimbursed. But it appears they have a vet staff on duty that reviews every claim that is not the usual wellness check, spay/nueter, teeth. So, what they seem to do is invoke their own diagnosis, deny the clam and send you back a letter as to why. At that point you have to go back to your vet....and your vet has compose a letter provide all testing, x-rays, etc along with a letter repudiating their (insurance) own diagnosis. Now, I've always won, but it's a pain in the butt.....and takes several weeks.

Now, I understand that some aren't as disciplined in setting aside that money, so insurance would be the better way to go, that and having a whole seperate credit card set aside to cover the upfront costs.

wow that is a total pain - these insurance companies kill me - been having probs with human ones lately as seems all insurances changed alot last year and this year even more they said.

I ended up getting the CareCredit Healthcare Finance - Payment Plans and Financing for Cosmetic Surgery, Dental, Vision, Hearing, Veterinary & Other Medical Procedures one to float the money longer but i guess not everyone can get that one but i would encourage everyone to try although some vets and specialists do not allow it which is a bummer. The reason they do not is because i found out the vet has to pay the interest for the year or so you do not pay the interest so they do not want to do this for their clients. So far only the dog dentist will accept it - one vet did but he was the one that messed up my dd on that metacam steroid combo so will never go back to him :( but he charges outragious prices probably to cover the interest lolll
