What should I do?? I have a (10 week old puppy) and I have noticed recently h e has been sneezing alot. When he sneezes there is stuff that comes out of his nose because when it does it goes on my arm when Im holding him so I feel it but I dont see it. There is nothing running from his nose. The pollen is pretty bad here...its even bothering me so I dont know if that what it is for him. He is prefectly fine, he eats normal and plays like he always does so I dont think he is SICK SICK...I just think its just a little cold. I dont know? I wanted to get advice to see what you all think I should do?? |
I would take him to the vet, to be on the safe side. He is only 10 weeks old, you don't want to take any chances!! |
I agree about taking the puppy to the vet! It's better to be on the safe side |
Your little pup should be seen by a veternarian. There is absolutely no way that we can diagnosis a health issue "on line". He is way too young to be "self treating". |
You should take him to the vet. :) Even if it is pollen, they may be able to give him something for relief. |
at that age it is probably kennel cough as it can be coughing or sneezing so go to vet as allergies do not really start until the age of 6 months to 3 years even though this allergy season will be the worst ever per dermatologist due to all the rains I would still say more related to a kennel cough starting so best to be safe and go to vet |
Has he seen a vet since you picked him up? I can't remember. You should take him to a vet even though he is eating and being playful. You got him at a very young age and some things may just be surfacing that weren't before. |
Please get him to the vet. Better safe than sorry, right? Guessing what the problem might be is not the answer. Finger's crossed it's not kennal cough, hence the vet visit. |
Vet visit is in order... Better safe than sorry |
Small puppies get upper respiratory infections easily. Both our yorkies got them within days of coming home. Please see your vet ASAP! They are too tiny to let things go. |
I brought him for a check up when I first got him then we were just there in Thursday and she said he looked healthy...but now he's always clearing his nose. I called the vet and said wait 24hrs to see if it gets better |

May have gotten chilled riding in his stroller while you're jogging. A pup that young shouldn't be exposed to the outdoors for any length of time. Best to wait till after Rabies vaccine... 16-20 weeks old. His immune system will be stronger then. Be very careful, cold-like symptoms can rapidly turn into pneumonia in a young (or old) pup, especially one with compromised immune system (having left Mom early). Probably healthiest thing to do would be keep him indoors till pollen season passes... |

Maybe that's what it is because he was fine before he got his 3 shots. |

When I brought home Marshall, he had an upper respiratory infection (kennel cough) and he gave it to my boy Jimi, too. It is fairly easy to treat w/ meds from the vet, but if it goes untreated then it can develop into pneumonia. Please take him to the vet as soon as you can. |

I just took him and he is fine...he just has a little bit of a cold but its nothing serious. Now I am 140$ broke because of the visit. They just gave me benedryl and antibiotic to just to clear his nose up. I wonder if it would of just cleard up by itself and he would of been fine because taking him is not cheap at all! |

Remember that vets don't give antibiotics unless they think there's a problem, so your vet was playing it safe. I've seen people let it go too long, and the vet bill was closer to $1000. You should always think of safety first, we had to go to the emergency room twice with Joey in the first year, toy breeds are expensive; the price of the dog is the least expensive part. You did the right thing! |
I hope these antibiotics work because if not I got to go back and spend another 150$. Would insurance take care of this stuff If I got it for him? |

Would it have cleared up itself? Maybe, maybe not. Taking your pup's history into consideration, it is more likely to have progressed and developed into pneumonia, due to his age, lack of maternal antibodies, and incomplete vaccine regimen. Cold-like symptoms should never be ignored in young puppies nor in older dogs. Pneumonia very frequently ends in the death of the dog. The stories you hear of dogs/puppies recovering from it are true miracles. Here is one: Please do not assume that because your pet is vaccinated, it will not get sick. I learned the hard way. My new rescue Yorkie developed a runny nose 2 days after I brought her home. Ten days later, my 12 year old showed the same symptoms, except the amount of discharge from his nose made him stop eating. Then between Vet visits, it turned into pneumonia (secondary bacterial infection), and he came extremely close to dying. The 1st antibiotic he was on did not help him, there was no improvement in his condition 24-48 hours after the initial dose. His clear runny became cloudy, his fever went up to 105.0. I laid him on the table on top of 2 bags of frozen veges trying to get the fever to break. It went to 104.9, I temped him again every 15 minutes, and it was 105.6. We went quickly to the nearest Vet, got xrayed, nebulized (inhalant antibiotic) and sent home on different antibiotics. His record and take- home instructions stated " owner is aware that Pneumonia=death in many dogs" He took his last pill today and is doing great. After researching online, I believe he contracted Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which is a strain of Corona virus found in places where many dogs are kept: kennels, humane societies, puppy mills, etc. *********** ************** ******** Also, he should continually show improvement. If, one day, he seems worse, get him back to the vet immediately. And, keep us posted... Hope he gets through this with no complications... |

The best option that is offered by some vets is to set aside a savings account for emergencies..... |
