| he hurt his back i think davinci hurt his back somehow. i think he pulled a muscle, but i really have no idea because he didn't jump off furniture or anything. the only thing i can think of is that he twisted funny when he was being picked up. he has a vet appt. tmw. and they told me to just keep him quiet till then. i am thinking of giving him children's benedryl or baby asprin to help with the pain. is there a calculator that tells you how much to give? has this ever happened to anyone's dogs? i don't understand how he got hurt. he just started yelping after my fiance picked him up because he wanted on our bed. maybe he twisted his muscle because he was wiggling around when he was picked up? he is only 20 weeks old. i was told they can hurt themselves just playing? he likes to hop on his back legs...could he have injured himself hopping around all the time? has this happened to anyone's dogs? my poor baby davinci.

| Soph hurt her neck a while back. She likes to shake her toys to "kill" them and she had a toy one day that she REALLY wanted to kill dead. She shook it so long and so hard that she strained her neck. Toy got put up and I gave her 1/4 of a baby aspirin morning and night for a couple days and she was ok. You can actually give up to a full baby aspirin (65 mg) or 1/4 of an adult strength (325 mg) once or twice a day. |

| First of all, you did not say how much he weighs. There is no way to accurately dose a dog without knowing the weight. All med dosages are calculated by weight. I would personally not give him anything that has not been prescribed by a vet. If you are going to the vet in the morning, you can find out what is going on with him and if he needs any meds. If they told you to simply keep him quiet until tomorrow, just do that. Don't play around with meds please....they could actually harm him! Especially something like aspirin....it can cause lots of problems if the correct dose is not given. I personally have never been told by any vet to use aspirin.

| update thank you for your input, i took davinci to the vet today. but the vet doesn't know what is wrong with davinci. just said that he doesn't think anything is broken, and he thinks davinci's neck is bothering him. maybe a pulled muscle? i asked about taking x-ray to see if anything is broken, but the vet said he would have to sedate him to take x-ray. i didn't want them to sedate davinci so i chose to wait and see if davinci gets better by thursday. the vet gave davinci a shot (i think it's for pain and anti-inflam.) also gave me RIMADYL to give davinci to help with pain and possible swelling. they weighed davinci at the vet's office today, he is now 3 lbs. i really hope davinci feels better soon, it's so sad to see him cry.

| It is so distressing when our babies are in pain. Sending good thoughts for a complete recovery and your peace of mind.

| I hope davinci is better soon and it is not too serious an injury. My maltese hurt his back one winter..trying to chase a bunny through the 3-5ft snow drifts in the back yard. Later that night he was laying on his side, pulling his tail to relieve pressure on his back. It strained his lower back. It was a couple of weeks before he was feeling better.

| If he doesn't improve, ask your vet to consider AAI. Unfortunately, it is congenital in Yorkies. We've had a few here on YT with it: Roo Bear Yorkies & Biewers- home for Biewer Yorkshire a la Pom Pon and Yorkshire Terriers - atlantoaxialinstability http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...some-help.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ry-urgent.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...bluxation.html |
