Hair Loss Anybody's Yorkie lost hair on their face (nose in particular)? I don't mean from scratching it out...I mean just disappearing. Ellie's nose hair is receding. :( It's looking pretty bald at this point. Pretty upset about it... Wondering if anybody else has dealt with this. It's not a piece here and there or a chunk. It is an area that's at least 1 cm by 1/2 cm. We may know what is causing it, but that is yet to be figured out for sure. So just wondering... Also, anybody know about melanocyte alopecia? |
YES YES YES OMG ~ What is the cause??? I noticed that within the past 6 months, TJ is loosing his nose hair, starting from the tip and going back AND he is loosing pigmentation :( :( :( AND his IBD is going nuts!!!! What is going on.... P.S. Vet said the hair lose is old age (not sure I believe that though) and the lose of color could be an auto immune disease :( :( :( either case, he said nothing to worry about...BUT...I do worry :( |

Crystal, what color is the skin that's showing? Is is dark? I've wondered if this is something similar to leather ear... a fungus, I think, is what causes that. |

Nope, I don't go with the old age thing either. It's starting from the tip and going back and a bit to the sides. Concerned about unbalanced diet. If she doesn't do well on new formulation (it has been unbalanced), then maybe it's something along the lines of melanocyte alopecia. Vet to consider biopsy if it gets worse... Ellie's pigment is great though. It just started... |

I am waiting for Dr.W to write me back. Yesterday I wrote him asking for a new diet for TJ bc I can not get his mucus pooh under control :( So I will ask him about this issue now too! TJ has a dark brown nose. His paw pads are skin colored. But with this hair loss on his nose now, I can see his brown nose fading into skin color and he has a small spot on the end of his nose that is fading too! Vet mentioned Vitiligo and/or Old Age, but told me not to worry... I do worry and I inspect his nose ALL the time...It is freaking me out! I tell him I will still love him with a pink nose though :D |
Princess has receding nose hair too.:( Got her checked out at the vet, had a cytology & it was some sort of bacterial fungal growth (she loves rubbing her face in grass & dirt:rolleyes:). He prescribed Chlorhexiderm shampoo & I've been rubbing some on her nose when giving her a bath. Just recently, she's been slowly growing a fuzz of hair back. Our vet also said it was common for Yorkies to lose hair on their nose. |
I wonder if that would be worth a try for us. She didn't scrape it and thought biopsy would be needed instead if it gets worse. It doesn't look irritated at all. Hmmm. I really don't want her to lose anymore. :( |

I will try to get some good pics uploaded tonight. |
Piccolo lost hair on her face due to Vasculitis. But, it has grown back now. Hope you get it figured out, especially since you are always so helpful and knowledgeable about all these things for us at YT. |
Brownie has this and the area doesn't feel slimy. When he had surgery on his broken leg he wasn't allowed to be bathed for 3 months, the most I was allowed was to use a wet wash cloth and I hated it. That's how he lost his hair. I have a medicated anti-fungal shampoo from the vet that I using on his nose and the hair is growing back, I just wish it would grow faster, lol. |
Tink had hair loss due to scabies. Growing back since treatment. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ictureid=56357 |

these two things come to mind also Vitiligo: Some hair loss, but mostly pigment loss that causes hair to change color. Mostly seen on the face and head. Seen most often in Rottweilers and Belgian Tervuren. Zinc-responsive dermatosis: Crusty, scaly skin with hair loss over the face, nose, elbows, and hocks. Cracked feet. Caused by zinc deficiency. Arctic or Northern breeds are most susceptible. so zinc and vitamin b would be of concern if you are looking at diet balancing |

i would try raw coconut oil on it as that is antifungal and safe to lick and see if you see a difference to rule out fungal - i do not care for antifungal drugs as they are really strong so coconut oil is safest |
