before doing the biopsy i would on the next blood draw do the vitamin panel and see if she is low on zinc - I think the vitamin b more has to do with pigmentation than hair loss

Her vet hinks the skin there looks very normal. It is darker than what the pics are showing and i think that's normal under there... The pigmentation is great. We haven't really noticed a gradual thing either. It just kinda appeared last week unless we weren't paying attention before.

With TJ it is almost at 1/2 inch from the brown line going back on the top and the sides, but he has little fuzz hairs and than at the 1/2 inch line, the hair is normal, thick and long.

I have the Malaseb Shampoo Chlorhexidine 2% and I think I will start to use that on his nose...

Maybe you should do the Vitamin and Mineral Tests at U of M

i would use organic coconut oil as malaseb is very strong and that area is real sensitive and chlorhexedine is for bacteria not fungal - keto chlor is for antifungal and malaseb too but those are strong shampoos and you do not want to get them in the eyes They have malaseb wipes but i would use coconut oil before any of those stronger things

lol it is hard when you see them every day to notice things i think as i only noticed when i was looking at pictures and went what the heck is going on with her nose lollll

Definitely not old age...
It's weird and likely will cost a big chunk of $$$ to figure it out.
Her nutritionist has been notified and vet and I are waiting on word from her and then we will go form there.

A few days ago I was still convinced that maybe the balding thing was all in my head since I see her all the time. Then we go to the vet and she doesn't remember Ellie's nose being like that either (from mid Feb.).

does she have thyroid issues? if not i would supplement with kelp as i know kelp is high in zinc and iodine but dd is on thyroid meds so cannot use kelp - I am pilling her with cod. I may just have to home cook for her She did have a rough year with diarrhea but has been fine now since january so maybe that was the cause since it just happened this year. She is back on probiotics and i am going to put her back on coconut oil after her blood work then i may just have to do the liver cleansing diet as i think soy may not be heling the situation although dex has a ton of hair and no hairloss on his nose and he is on purina ha too but i think he has a healthier body as all he had was the ibd and pancreatitis and dd is a total mess

Does she lick her nose or do any kind of nose digging???

TJ is a BIG time nose licker and he has OCD where he sticks his nose into blankets and pillows, etc. to snort in air. He has to do his snorting everynight before bed. So I was thinking between the licking on his nose and the snorting may be contributing to the hair loss, but when I started to see his brown nose fading, etc...I now think something just isn't right

yeah derm and ims looked at dd hair loss and said whoa she has never had this much hair loss she needs to have that thyroid rechecked I knew it was getting bad and when i brush her it comes out so sad she is going to be chinese crested soon

on next blood draw have the 6 panel thyroid done as pigmentation loss can be from hypothyroid and it runs in this breed. DD has it

what exactly are you feeding? are you giving her a multivitamin with home cooked?

No thyroid problems. Hasn't been checked recently, so thought about running some bloodwork. But her vet is thinking no.

She doesn't really lick it. She rubs her face in the furniture all the time. The vet is wondering if she is pulling it out that way, but it's too even for that...

Yes homecooked. It was balanced by a veterinary nutritionist. I changed something around a few months back, but I think it still should have been balanced. For the last months...totally unbalanced. It has to be reformulated b/c of pancreatitis. I was waiitng on something and couldn't really do it sooner.

I absolutely, positively do not mind.

But, I have no idea what is wrong with him either.

I think I'd be trying a few things before going with the age dx.

ok just got back from derm and she said the nose is not from zinc as zinc deficient dogs have crusty nose and it runs in huskies and malamutes not yorkies. She said for dd it is either due to staph infection affecting that area or she strongly feels dd thyroid has gone down and it is her hypothyroid and she needs her meds adjusted since she is having hair loss all over So i would strongly recommend having a thyroid panel done if none has been done to rule this out. She said if it is not either of these then it is due to steroid use as well as dogs can have loss of hair due to steroid use.

just wanted to pass this on in case it can help
