I am a single dad, so home cooking is not really an option, i work to much, and all of my free time i spend with her and my kids.Yorkies are amazing dogs, i wish i could take her to work everyday, leaving is so difficult..

i prefer ultra z/d but some dogs can itch with that food as it has chicken in it but much prefer that to i/d for pancreatitis

Yeah the home cooking thing can be difficult. I did it for 5 years for two dogs as their ONLY food. Then I switched over to home cooked with commercial backups. Now, I'm back to all home cooked. I do freeze ahead but it takes a while to get it all mixed and cooked and stuffed into ice cube trays for easy defrosting.

There are some good commercial foods so hopefully something will be a good match!

solid gold has a good low fat food 6% the hollistique blend

I can't use solid gold or any commercial food on the market nor will I feed dog food to my dogs ever again. Barney is on very low fat home cooked and has made a full recovery pending some blood work.

Just read this post today and had to send my prayers. I'm so happy to hear Barney is doing better! Go Barney! BTW he looks adorable in the photos!

Once you've been through the pancreatitis ordeal, it scares the crud out of you to even try commercial foods. Its just not worth it. I've been there!

YEP That is when i became an animal health advocate lollll as I was scared straight for sure and wanted to learn more - I hate it bc i am so paranoid but that disease scared us big time

Oh you are so right! We are DONE with commercial food. I always hated it, but used it in conjunction with home cooked. Two near death experiences with pancreatitis along with the huge vet bills and the stress and worry is just not worth it to me anymore. I'd rather spend my weekends roasting chickens and boiling brown rice and making green beans if it means the health of my babies. It may be time consuming and slightly more expensive, but it is far cheaper than the $1200 vet bill I just paid off from the last pancreatitis attack (and that was without a hospitalization!).

Bye bye commercial dog food.

lol we are still feeding commercial and thank God it has worked for 4 years BUT i was at my last stop with purina ha and it worked - whew otherwise it was off to home cooking

You're lucky! We tried to get the HA after you told us about Dex and they said Nope! Not for Barnacles. He has to be on home cooked, 3% fat.

The hard part is that now all three have to be on HC and all of them get a different diet! I have no life...

No kidding! These dogs eat better than we do, trust me. Who has time to cook for ourselves? They eat high quality organic food and we eat junk. LOLOL
