| Camden has a hernia & needs surgery! Advice please!! We took Camden to the vet today because she has a lump on her tummy. The vet said it's a hernia & we need to do surgery, she also needs a dental. Camden was already spayed when we got her at 2 1/2 yrs old. So we haven't gone through surgery with her and I'm very nervous! Any advice regarding hernias, surgery, dentals, I would really appreciate!! We haven't scheduled yet. We did take home the anti-biotic for her to take for three days prior to surgery! Thanks!!

| Hernia's are common and not really a big deal, but there is a risk anytime they have surgery. All it is is a protrusion of the gut...a small incision, tuck, stitch, close. Our little Yorkie is almost 13 and just had her teeth cleaned, a few extractions, and some gum tissue tightened around her canines. She came thru just fine. Do you have a good vet? My Sister-in-law's dog had her hernia repaied when she was spayed. He was bacl to normal in about 2 days. |

| One of my poodles was just in this morning for a dental... all is well. It is always a risk (especially with these little guys) going under but they usually pull through just fine. My older yorkie has been under for his neuter and to have a tooth extracted. My younger yorkie was just under for her spay and a liver biopsy. There were no complications with either of them!

He did say that hernias are common and I know they are. She's had surgery, she was spayed by the byb that we rescued her from, but we haven't had her go through any surgery. I just feel like the poor thing has been through so much already! I'm glad that your Yorkie hasn't had any complications, just what I need to hear! Thanks!

We have been through having Crosley & Wrigley spayed. Wrigley had teeth extracted when she was spayed as well. They both did great! (same vet that will be doing Camden) I've just never had any dog have surgery except for spaying & dental!

| I'm sorry that Camden is facing surgery, but I'm happy for her and you that the lump wasn't something more serious. Best wishes to Camden! |

| I'm really sorry Camden has to go thru that, but I can tell you that way back in the 70's I had one that had a hernia, too, and she was 9 years old at the time. She did great and things were not that advanced then as now. In fact, at that time, they only gave us an 80% chance of her survival. We had to take it because the hernia kept growing and she was so little. Anyway, I won't tell you not to worry, because that is just normal. I still do. But I can tell you that I'm sure Camden will do just fine.
