| sick yorkie it has been a long time since i've been here.. that being said... athena, 18 mo old 3lb Yorkie became sick Tuesday evening. She started vomiting and continued to vomit through the night ,the next day she started having diarrhea that continued until Thursday morning. I took her to the vet, they did a fecal exam, it was negative, and said they thought it was her food change, she had eaten ceasers fillet Mignon and chicken. They gave her an injection for the vomiting and pet tinic to help her gi. she ate last night so i thought we were in the clearing up.. she did not pass any pee or poo last night, but did pee this morning. Now she is having trouble walking, first her back leg didn't want to work right, then after cleaning her up thinking maybe it was matted hair from the diarrhea causing the issue, she was walking even more "drunk" like. I called the vet, they told me to feed her and get her to drink then wait an hour to see if she improves.. any idea from anyone what is goin on with my lil girl??

| They did not do any blood work prior to giving the shot to see if this was pancreatitis or something else???? I would get her in for blood work If her limbs are not working that concerns me as that is neurological has she ever been bile acid tested to see how her liver is functioning? did you feed any high fatty foods prior to this? what happened 12hrs to 24hrs prior anything different |

| word from the vet..... I had changed her food and she gotten sick, they gave her meds for vomiting and for diahhrea . the meds they gave her she had a reaction to... Pet Tinic, yes I had all the bloodwork done, had a fecal check, did everything they said they needed to to find out the problem, and they ruled it a food change issue. then she had a reaction to the meds for that.. she is doing well and is said to going to be okay.... i will let you know. i pick her up later today after her iv flluids. thank you

| Please ask what bloodwork they did. If they only ran a CBC - this will show nothing other than infection. She needs to have a Chem 27 panel run to rule out anything else. A simple food change doesn't normally cause severe vomiting and diarrhea....

| Sorry it took a few days to respond ladies.. in response to the request to get full blood work.. I've been a member of yorkie talk for a few years, and I've done my homework on these dogs.. did you really think, after all the talks here about needing full blood work on our lil ones and not letting a vet GUESS what is wrong.. I'd not request EVERYTHING for my baby? I had them do everything, including the check for pancreatitis. She is doing wonderful, it was indeed the meds, she had a rare reaction to the Pet Tinic they put her on to clear up her GI issues. She was given an injection of Valium and three hours later, she was perfectly healthy again.. thank you for the advice ladies... but I didn't wait for it to post.. I took her to the vet straight away... love my lil lady too much to lose her.

I'm glad you thought to have them check "EVERYTHING". Unfortunately, just bc you've been here awhile everyone doesn't know your level of yorkie education and that you would have known to check for certain things. Your initial post didn't make it clear what your vet checked for, so you were just getting some helpful advice here.......another bit of helpful advice - Caesars dog food is not a good nutritional food, much better ones are out there.

| Ok,re-read my post and this time read in it the compliment I was giving the members of this site in statin the reason I knew to do all those things was BECAUSE of their advice in the past. I'm aware ceasers is not good, I didn't give it to her, she ate it while visitin a friend......I love this site, but detest the rude posters,it is why kim no longer active here..thanks for the reminder.
