| I'm so sorry to hear about your friends yorkie. Did he have an injury that would have caused a blood clot? Was an autopsy done?

| I am so sorry that your friend is going through this. It is just tragic. I have never seen this condition in dogs, however it is quite common in humans; forming in veins and arteries that have incurred damage. However, like Merck stated, several chronic illnesses in animals are usually the cause. Did her pup have any known chronic disease? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm really sorry for your friend. How sad. This would be the 1st time I've heard of it since having dogs. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Omg, I'm so sorry . Thrombosis (well, and embolus too...which is a thrmobosis that starts traveling, and can be critical very quickly) is something familar in humans (think of "DVT" or deep vein thrombosis in humans - this is why they tell you to "move your legs" on airplanes often). Depending on where emboli lodge themselves (ie, where they end up after traveling) and what underlying health problems are also present (diagnosed/undiagnosed) really determines whether the outcome is hopeful or, unfortunately, deadly (even instant). Did this baby have any health problems that your friend was aware of?

| no clot that they are aware of but when vet took blood work the blood sprayed all over the vet as there was air in the blood They were traveling by truck from nj to california as her husband is a trucker and they have another yorkie and a shih tzu - her scarlett was 9 and her other yorkie has ct but scarlett never was sick so it was all of a sudden - they have no clue but they sent off blood to see if any toxins and tested negative for toxins - they have no clue she was cremated in las vegas by another friend of ours vet and shipped home I feel so bad for her -- she was anemic and she said the tongue was black - i feel so bad for her as she was totally fine sunday running around no issues and whamo all of sudden she is on deaths door. They said the only chance was blood transfusion but vet was honest they said that probably would not even save her |

she told me it can happen at any times in humans or dogs and usually due to trauma or illness but she said scarlett was not acting abnormal until they day they ran her to specialty hospital as she was acting a little lethargic so she wanted to have her checked out to be safe - she never thought she was that serious Last edited by dwerten; 02-15-2010 at 07:08 PM. | |

| no she said when they went to truck stop scarlett always gets excited to go out and she was just laying there so she told her husband something is wrong that is not normal for her and they went right to hospital immediately that is all she noticed as a sign - her other two dogs are so sad when they got home they looked in each room for her and then found her favorite toy in the toy box that neither would dare touch as that was her toy and took it and put it in her favorite bed - how sad is that |
