| Help please! My sister's 10 yr. old baby w/bloody poop My sister's yorkie is 10 yrs. old (Jasmine) and her poop is solid, but dark bloody red. It has happened twice before and the Dr. said "If it happens again we will have to run tests on her". His office is closed right now (it's 9:30 P.M.) so she can't take him in, but does anyone think she should take him to the pet emergency doctor tonight? She's really scared. So am I!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wish I / or someone could answer this for you...but honestly...I don't really know how it could be answered. My best advice here would be that she call the ER Vet and see if she can consult w/ a tech or the vet. Bright blood in the stool is often from the colon - but dark, tarry stools can mean internal bleeding. But there is no way to really know what's happening here... Is there vomiting? How is the dog behaving? Appetite?

| Good advice Ann. What has Jasmine eaten in the last 24-48 hours? Anything she doesn't normally eat? Meat? Dairy? If she's had it before it sounds like they have an idea of what it is or what causes it. I would really be concerned if it was bright red - but it would be great if you could talk to someone tonight - just in case.

| She could also have Gastroenteritis which is common in small dogs and can be fatal. If she was my furbaby, I would be headed for the ER without question. No matter what the cause it's not normal and with the little ones time to treatment can be a matter of life and death. Please keep us updated on Jasmines progress.

If it is hge you will know it the dog will be really sick and the stool is raspberry jam looking diarhea as the red blood cells multiply rapidly here is a link of what demi had as sounds like the same thing check out the pics DEMI POOP pictures by dwerten - Photobucket |

There was only one little vomit and it was like a clear snot type. She is acting ok, but sister (Laurie) had her first grandbaby and is gone a LOT lately. I remember my 10 week old having one bloody poop when I left her for 5 hours, so I wonder if that could be it. I'll post as soon as I find out if she took her last night. (Laurie was reading all replies last night, but has forgotten her password, so she couldn't answer) Thank you so much!

| I just texted my sister to find out what she did last night, I'll let you all know what happened when I find out. My sister (Laurie) had forgotten her YT password so I was helping out. Thank you Ann, Corinne, CJ (?) and Debbie, for your quick replies. I'm sure Laurie was reading them last night and trying to decide what she should do. You are so much appreciated. Emmy

| Update on Jasmine: She finally did a poop and it was totally normal. No blood or anything. Still don't know what caused this, unless she ate something my sister didn't know about. I still think it was the stress from my sister being 'away', more than usual. That can happen and really, there's nothing we can do about it. It has happened to me before. Poor little babies.
