She does not have demodex so she would be a perfect candidate if it was soley on immune system and that was all it was based on so this comes from the mama dog and is transmitted to the babies sadly :( My friends dog has no allergies, no thyroid issues and has this and has had it since a pup and she is a puppy mill pup

the prob is people keep inbreeding the heck out of this breed and we end up with all these dogs with poor immune system issues like this just like if we inbred humans we would have major issues :( and these poor dogs and owners suffer

I dont know My dog that had it hasnt had another incident of it hes 5 now. Nor is he a sickly dog. Ive only taken him to the vet one time in 5 yrs for illness and that was because as a pup he got diahrea

is your dog cured of this? what worked for your dog as may help her as well to know what treatment worked

that is great as it is usually very hard to get rid of as my friend has had a nightmare with it :(

yeah the dips are pretty potent as well - all drugs for this one are strong sadly :( what are you feeding your pup? This might help too as diet has alot to do with a health immune system

just want to be sure - are you sure your dog did not have sarcoptic mange instead of demodex because they usually dip for sarcoptic not demodex just curious as this hit me when driving to work. My grandma's dog had scabies ( sarcoptic mange) and she got it and it is contagious unlike demodex - her dog was dipped a couple times - so we used revolution on dee dee since she was around him to make sure that was not causing the itching - we did two rounds of it as mites are sometimes hard to detect

I'm losing my 12 year old Yorkie 1 day at a time, she has scabs all over her, nobody seams to be able to tell us whats wrong, the vets don't know, we have switched food thinking allergies, we have had antibiotics, we have used many different shampoos, oinments, but the scabs keep multiplying, shes losing weight, no energy, she is still eating good, I would like to see if someone in South Florida knows of a vet school where many people can look at her and possibly somebody might find an answer before shes gone.:(
Thanks
Arthur

This happened to Hunter and we took him to a holistic vet. We also took him 100% off dog food and fed him rice and chicken and veggies. He also had to have a shot every couple days for about a month or two. I'm not sure what the shot was though. He also had special shampoo. It took months but all his hair grew back and he gained weight. He was about 12 also when this happened. Hope this helps a little. My advise is to talk to a holistic vet. This is what saved Hunter.

The number one treatment for Demodectic mange is Ivermectin. Rescues see a lot of this and it is successfully treated.
Just because your pup has it does not mean he is immuno-suppressed.
I would trust the dermatologist and his/her recommendations. I am happy to hear they are doing a full work up prior to starting treatment.
Once they give you a plan of action, ask a lot of questions and do some reading on the web so that you fully understand what is going on. That way should there be any adverse reactions, you will be aware!

I think if you Google Promeris problems you will be surprised and not so quick to recommend it.

ivermectin is not the greatest either sadly and why off label and not fda approved ;( same as revolution for scabies - all those flea meds have their issues sadly and why thank goodness i do not have to use them - I just know a few yorkies that had demodex and it worked for them and owner was happy - i would definitely discuss with dermatologist and get their input regarding the 3 different options for sure - ivermectin, interceptor daily small dose, and promeris as those are the only options that i have heard of

but please check the shampoo they give you and if it has ketoconazole in I personally would not use it --I think my friend uses the benzoyl peroxide on her dog with demodex -i will email her

Ivermectin may not be wonderful, but it works for many things. Heartworms for one. I have thankfully never lost a pup who went through heartworm treatment and have no problems with Heartgard.

As for any type of treatment....certainly explore all options with the vet and do your own research as well! It is always wise to be an educated consumer.

I cannot imagine they would suggest an anti fungal shampoo for this pup...this is not a fungal issue!

so you use heart guard over interceptor? I know many prefer interceptor to heart guard any insight on that as just curious even though thank goodness does not affect mine but i know you know alot about things and wanted your take on that

good point to bring up too - is this dog on heartguard already for heartworm as that is important for derm to know as well which i am sure they will ask
