I think my dog is sick.... Can anyone help me?!

Jack was so much more himself yesteday and last night. He was giving kisses again and even playing! He hasn't been in the mood to play for awhile. I figured it was just him getting older and getting out of the puppy stage but he really did play. I have been buying the bigger cans of food and feeding him half a can a day (it's cheaper in the long run to buy those than the 5.8 oz cans). He's eating half a can a day and even looks forward to breakfast again! I know it's only been a few days but he even looks healthier. The boys even spent their first night back on the bed last night and no accidents. Jack use to have accidents on the bed.... last night he held it and slept through the night. I got up once at like 5 to take them out because I happened to wake up (and he wasn't up... I had to wake him up). I am very proud (and impressed) with both of them.

the stress factor possibly and stuff stays in their system (blood) for longer than 4 hrs - just something to think about

this is great and alot of times they feel treat the dog not always just the blood work as it can vary many times so this is a great sign

are you feeding a low protein diet is that why he is feeling better? what are you feeding ?

He's been eating science diet wet food It's not the low protein yet. I will be picking some up on Monday when the vet opens. I would have not had time to make it to their office before they closed yesterday. He's been eating the same brand since Tuesday and does very well with it. And today I ordered them both MN Twins Jerseys. They are going to look cute this spring!

Urinary Tract Infections (peeing on the bed) can go hand in hand with liver problems. Also best to feed 3-5 smaller meals throughout the day if liver is suspect. Use only stainless steel or ceramic bowls for food and water. Thickened intestines can come from a blockage, intussuception, parasites, Inflammatory Bowel Disease,...etc

great news STICK TO WHAT WORKS so if it is working then do not mess with it when it stops working then we need to look for something different. Expensive vet foods if they work worth the money to not have a sick dog or high vet bills. Not always the BEST food by many peoples standards but in a sick dog if it works you stick to it or you can be borrowing more trouble and possibly more health issues

agree with urine issue and liver but the bile acids were pretty low 15 pre and 26 post so think this is just mvd not shunt at this point

I'm sorry but I do not think GME is what my dog has. Just by looking at the symptoms, it doesn't match everything. I honestly think it comes down to a nutrition issue and/or depression or a liver issue. He has put some weight back on and will even eat dry dog food as well as the canned. His bowel movements are more predictible, he has energy he did not seem to have a week ago as he is playing, and he hasn't had another attack like he did on Tuesday.

I have an 8 month old female Yorkie with very similar symptoms. We first noticed this when she was six months old. We thought she might have picked up/eaten something poisonous and this was just a reaction to it, because she vomitted. She has shaking episodes where she is very wobbly on her feet, espeacially her rear end, and has fallen down. When having an episode she holds her head/ears in a peculiar way. She has been very difficult to toilet train. I wonder if one of her pupils is bigger than the other. After an episode she sleeps and wakes up just fine, except she favours her left back leg. Sometimes she favours her left back leg off and on for a week. She has had a blood work up,(fine) thyroid checked out, and x rays (no hip or patella problem). She has gone weeks without an episode. She had an episode last night, first in about a month. We kind of hoped she was over it! She is lean but not skinny, she is very active, happy, loving, friendly and very outgoing.(except during/after an episode. I sometimes wonder if she has a screw loose, or maybe not to bright! She could just be strong willed! I wish she could talk! My second vet has given her omega 3-6-9 supplement and high potency multiple vitamin/ minerals. He says seizures can be controlled by diet??? I am VERY interested in Jack's problem and hope he is on the road to recovery. Please keep us updated.

So I went to the vet to pick up the prescription dog food. And I cannot afford it. For an 8 pound bag it costs $60 I went to the pet store here in town and they recommended another type of food. It's not science diet, it's precise. My dogs like the food so we went with the light food which is 18% protein (better than the regular dog food they have which is 24% protein or the same brand but puppy food which is 29% protein). I'm just not sure what to do because I cannot afford a prescription food like science diet. But he has magnesum based crystals. I'm just struggling to figure out what to do.

can you at least get this one bag until your dog feels better; then you can switch him to something more affordable. its crucial he gets the right food for his condition; what is the name of the prescription food; how come it's so expensive. anyhow, i think it will be worth it for your dogs health. and if u think about it; its better paying $60 then hundreds or thousands of dollars for the hospital bills.
