Wow, I too am in awe of the generosity and support shown here.:)

You guys are the best ! Knowing this puppy is finally getting help thanks to people here is really touching.

ladyjane - that's good of you to mention someone else needing advise/help - maybe someone knows who it is can direct them to this thread ? It has a ton of good LS information on it.

People on this forum are amazing, it is truly heartwarming!

I am glad that she is getting help. I just hope that the OP understands that although many vets are experienced with preforming surgery, but this baby needs a vet who specializes in Liver Shunts. UT is one of the best. Dr. Tobias is the best in my opinion, but she is dealing with her husbands illness right now and is not in town often, but there are others who have learned from her who are also great at UT. She needs to be on a special food along with all the medications. This may have already been posted, if it has I am sorry, I am just worried for this tiny baby.

Monica She is 16 from Cal, and her baby Sasha has LS.

Little Melody's Update for the Family

To all the wonderful family of YT:
I know why I stayed on the forum for so long, it's because of all the wonderful people. Sometimes we don't always agree and that's fine because in the long run we all learn from each other.
I've received some PM from members and their generosity is just amazing to say the least. I'm so proud to be a member of such a wonder Family because that's what we are in the long run.

Krystal will be calling the vet first thing in the morning. I have a call into Tom but probably won't be in touch until tomorrow when he's at his office.
He'll know the answers about the vet care available at Davis.

My daughter was relived to hear I didn't make the drive to Mammoth Lakes. It wasn't 3 1/2 hours but 5 1/2 hours and with the ice, snow and fog, I'd probably be stuck somewhere in between. I have a dear friend that I was going to pull out of bed this morning to drive with me but she didn't think my idea was that great. They have a cabin in Mammoth and said, their's snow... Kathleen... I know you have a big heart and will do just about anything to save this baby but your sick... and your going into the hospital for surgery. Are you out of your mind... lol maybe but in my heart this was the right decision. Too bad the snow held me up or I would have been there.

I know the best decision was to leave Melody with Krystal and her family. With the proper medical care, she should improve. Let's just keep those prayers coming for her recovery.

I'll send an update in the morning after Krystal talks to the vet.

This guy is so good, he works on every type of animal. It doesn't matter if it's Tigers or the small of animals. He is known across this country because of his reputation.

I'll keep you posted on all updates but please keep in mind, Krystal is very upset and needs our support for now. Think how you would feel if you were facing this situation. It's sad but right now it's in God's hands and he work out the way it's suppose too.

Let's all just say some prayers that Melody condition will improve with the medication for now.

who is this vet as i live in southern california as well? I am familiar with Dr Broome who does the scintigraphies here as i was referred to him for dee dee. UCDAVIS is in northern california i believe too far away. My friend from here flew to university of tennessee to dr tobias as she could not find someone she was comfortable with here and it was extremely expensive here as well. Also a lady from washington on liver shunt group drove down here with her maltese to have scintigraphy done by dr broome and had the surgery here in orange county by a man and the pup died right after - sorry to be bad news but wondering if it is the same guy - do not mean to be a downer but i would get this pup to ut as it will be cheaper with travel arrangements as it was for my friend and have not heard of a successful shunt repair in southern california.

Also my vet's best friends dog had an internal shunt done at ucdavis she told me and the dog died and her friend was sorry she had the surgery done. It was a large dog a boxer - UCDAVIS is known for nutrition schooling not shunt surgery - our vet is from there and has phd along with our dentist ran the small animal facility - I can ask them about it if you want and our vet also is friends with dr broome who does the scintigraphies out of tustin and los angeles.

If there have been some successful shunt surgeries here then that is great but i have not heard of one yet :(

I think my friend in los angeles was quoted $4000 for the surgery here in so cal

Also the other person is sasha on here and i have been trying to help her as jean dodds does the bile acid tests in Garden grove she is non profit and it is very cheap and also dr broome is in tustin right by her as well and the scintigraphy is $390 I believe at least it was when they wanted dd to have it and i called a couple years ago. He is the only one to do the scintigraphy in so cal and he operates out of tustin and a few days a week out of Los angeles.

Question, Melody's owner is not responding publically, is she responding to someone privately?

I thought UC Davis performed the surgery and/or UCLA

did not know ucla did any of these surgeries - is ucla a teaching veterinary hospital? Did not know we had any here in so cal thought the only one was ucdavis?

I am praying for Melody.
