I'm sorry about your loss.....

I see you breed ? Did you not get all the blood work done before she went in for surgery ? I know even with blood tests things can go wrong but it's a precaution most vets do especially with very small dogs I don't see a vet giving pain meds if they couldn't wake her from surgery - that makes no sense !! Are you sure that's what happened ?

(and not to be picky but the word is Spay - not spaded) .....

poor baby - I'm sorry you lost her but there's no way you can sue. Vets always have you sign papers up front stating the risks..........

So sorry for your loss. This is always heavy on my mind whenever I have one going in for any type of surgery even with bloodwork as anything can happen.

yes it was rude she does deserve an apology! this is a terrible thing there are no gaurentees with sugery not even in human's I had my doggy fixed last week and I couldn't wait to call to see was he alright they told me after 12 to call it was 12:01 I was standing in line at the car registration. (my vet didn't do the blood test either he said I didn't need it that mine was healthy) So I too would have been devistated and upset. But there would have been nothing I could have done especially to the vet. Hope you heal Ill be praying for you and your baby.

My vet offers the bloodwork as an option and tells of the risk if you do not get the bloodwork. The bloodwork is an extra $55. I would NOT have the surgery with out it, but to some the extra money is just too much. To me the risk is too high and the money is worth every penny so they know what is going on before they administer any kind of anesthia(SP?) or meds. My babies are worth every penny I spend on them.

To the OP I am sorry for your loss!!! I can not imagine losing one of my babies!!

Thank you everyone it help a bit.

They tried to wake her and came out and told me that after the surgery he gave her pain meds and that stopped her heart.

Thats about what my vet I have now charges. He also does it when you get your annual shots and even though it is an extra expense he knows what is going on with your dog. I dont blame the op for not getting the bloodwork but the vet should have never put a yorkie especially a tiny one under without doing it

oh wow....it sounds like she may have been over medicated....that's really sad. For anyone else who is planning a spay/nueter surgery) bloodwork IS worth the extra money - but also not a guarantee that things will be ok. It's an extra safety precaution especially with very small dogs. Sometimes blood work will come back with a problem and a good vet would know not to perform any kind of surgery if it puts a pet at risk...

I'd be devestated too if something like that ever happened to my girls but again - the vet is protected as are doctors.

I've had the bloodwork done too but the vet made sure to tell me that there is still no guarantee when it comes to surgery; just like humans. I don't think we should be blaming the OP that her dog died during surgery.

So sorry for your loss. When we lose someone or our precious pups to death, we look to blame someone in our grief. While the vet could have done bloodwork, it may have been perfectly normal and still have resulted in the loss of Lexie - all surgery has it's risks even for healthy people and pets. Pets and people can have adverse reactions to any medications, pain meds, antibiotics, etc. - our prayers will be with you and Lexie. :hands:

Who's blaming her ? I think most who are posting about bloodwork are doing it so others will be aware of the risks of anesthesia especially with very small dogs.....and as I said - it isn't a guarantee but a precaution....

I always feel terrible when any pet doesn't survive a surgery - spay/nueter surgery is a risk we take but it doesn't help with the pain of a loss :(
