| Irritated Bottom? Please help..Izzy has been acting strange for a couple of days. We moved back here to Mass. from Florida a month ago, so I figured it was just dry skin? But he keeps going after his butt, then almost freezes and tucks his tail under. Then when it seems it's his bottom, it looks like he's biting or scratching his back two legs? It's been about two months since his anal sacs were done, could this be the problem? I feel so bad for him, but my BIGGEST problem is I was on unemployment and that just ran out. I have hardly any money, nor do I have a car? Does anyone know or have any suggestions as to what it could be and where I could go to afford to have him looked at? It's hard enough being unemployed and down, then to feel like I can't do anything for my little boy. Thanks for the help in advance, greatly appreciate it. |

| That was my first thought as well. If you google it, it can show you the areas and maybe you can figure out if this is the problem.

| can you get CareCredit Healthcare Finance - Payment Plans and Financing for Cosmetic Surgery, Dental, Vision, Hearing, Veterinary & Other Medical Procedures I would take him in if he has had issues with anal glands - only other thing is flea allergy that affects back half of dog but i would imagine it is winter there and no fleas |

| I'm sorry your sweetie is having problems. If the problem is anal sacs, a simple change in diet could solve the problem. I give Maximo green peas (no sodium, slightly less than a teaspoon) with lunch and dinner. The peas give his stool enough bulk and firmness to express the glands naturally. I microwave the peas for 10 seconds, then cool them down in cold water. Does your little one have any redness, swelling, or anything around the anus? Any scooting action? | Thanks thank you everyone for all the advice and help. I remember my old cocker spaniel used to scoot her butt all the time. But Izzy doesn't scoot at all. It seems to bother him the most, after we've gone outside to potty, especially from the cold? He looks uncomfortable, but not in pain. He's eating fine and playful as always, thank God. When we come in from the cold, whether he's had a bowel movement or not, he runs in and almost stops and tucks his tail under. Then he'll either go after his bottom or his back legs? I feel helpless. But then he's fine once he warms up? |

| Another low-cost solution that is less risky than trying to express glands yourself: bathing the back end in epsom salts. I have read that if the dog won't sit in the epsom bath, then hold a towel soaked in the epsom water to the rear end. |

| My Yorkie sort of had the same problem--only he scooted. It seemed I was always taking him to get his glands expressed. I took him for a second opinion for his acl injury and he had a little rash that was beginning to get infected--like a brush burn from all the scooting. The vet gave me an antibiodic and he was fine. |

| Hi all well I brought Izzy to have his anal sacs expressed today. Plus he got groomed...so darn cute. Hopefully he will feel better...he's still after his bottom a little, like he always is after being groomed. But I will keep an eye on him to make sure he feels better soon. Thanks everyone for the help |
