she was probably stressed from spay and it is stress colitis. Here are some things you can do first did vet give you tylan powder or metronidazole? I would use probiotics 2 hrs after antibiotic and mix in a tiny bit of organic pumpkin. Also i would feed steamed white rice mixed into food as that will firm them up as well. What are you feeding? Did you switch foods after spay? what is fiber content? Too much fiber can be bad for colitis that is why i would only use a little pumpkin as that is fiberous. When my girl had it real bad and was vomitting and diarhea i soaked her kibble to keep her from vomitting it up as colitis is when the intestinal tract is inflamed and if vomitting the whole intestinal tract is inflamed if only diarhea then just large intestines is inflamed. What food are you feeding? I know it is no fun as my girl had it after she had metacam so did they give you metacam after the spay as that could have messed her up as my girl was messed up from nsaid metacam Were you giving it mid meal ? as nsaids can damage the lining of stomach if given on empty stomach and if given with any steroids

| Sorry about your furbaby having colitis. Debbie gives great advice based on what has worked for her, thanks Debbie. It is important to get the baby to eat, small amounts per couple of hours is better than nothing, give water with a syringe if she is not drinking. Keep us posted, will keep her in prayers.

so make sure to check her gums and pinch back of neck skin and if it sticks and stays up and does not bounce back real quick then dehydrated. If she is a tiny and does not pass those tests have them give her sub q's so you can take her home to be with you rather than iv fluids. Also use some nutrical. If she is not eating maybe try 3/4 rice 1/4 chicken and try in small amounts - white rice though NOT BROWN as brown is harder to digest and will make things worse as alot of fiber i know it happened to me too much pumpkin can have reverse affect too and brown rice can make it worse

| Vet put her on FortiFlora and Flagyl first visit then added Tagamet 5 days later on 2nd visit. I asked vet if i could give her steamed rice and chicken broth for now but she said no because switching food might irritate her tummy more. She's on Natural Balance Salmon/Sweet Potatoe and spoonful of Activia once a day.

| Flagyl is metronidazole so you are good there but I would ask about tylan powder as it has an anti-inflammatory agent in it that metronidazole does not have and that may help - the prob is most vets do not carry it and it is bitter tasting so you have to have it compounded in capsules- it is not as strong as metronidazole as well but the anti-inflammatory is good but vets tend to use both of these drugs with diarhea - antibiotics can upset the stomach as well and why you need to give mid meal |

| I went through the same thing with Charlie. The vet diagnosed him with colitis and after about a month of episodes (bloody diarrhea and vomiting), finally tested his bile acids which ended up being very elevated. He was then diagnosed with liver shunts. I don’t want to worry you…but I would definitely have the vet test his bile acids. Better safe then sorry. Hope your baby feels better soon! |
