Find a vet that specializes in canine dentistry, and a warm compress a few times daily sounds good to help it drain, the drainage may cause itchiness so keep it clean. Do NOT use peroxide or betadine so close to his eye. Plain warm water should dissolve any drainage. |
Years ago I had a male yorkie who one night yelped and jumped off the bed, when I looked at him there was hole under his eye, I took him right to the vet and they removed the tooth and the one on the other side as the vet said it could happen on the other side as well. The hole healed after the tooth was removed and a week of antibiotics. I would find a vet that will remove the tooth asap as it is really painful for them. Keep us posted. |
get to an board certified dentistry as that is not true about the infection as they will give him an antibiotic shot at time they go under we see a dentist and he is awesome. here is a list of dentists in your area AVDC Diplomates Directory abscessed teeth are hard to find and usually only show up in xrays, sore under eye - they are extremely painful |
this guy is in largo and he has a website. I have to say with my experience the ones that are further into their profession and successful have a website. I went to two dentists and decided on the one we go to now and he had the website seemed more professional had a beautiful facility in a specialty center and came highly recommended by many vets. Do not do the referral just tell him you want to go direct as you read about dentistry on a group as not sure if kick backs but have heard of such as when i called it was cheaper to see dentist if i went direct rather than a referral so i always go direct to a specialist. D- I've been to that facility before, it happens to be my local ER too :) Dr. Peak does have an impressive background and experience... I will more than likely be in touch with them... Dudley hasn't displayed any signs of pain (not that it isn't painful), he eats great and continues chewing on his bone this morning. The sore has subsided and not draining today, today is the 3rd day of the antibotic. From the MANY things i read, now I'm wondering if a root canal or extraction is what he'll need? Would it be best to just remove it? I guess the Dr will know once X-rays are taken....sometimes i wish "google" didn't exisit, i research the heck out of things and then get information overload which leads me to panic mode:eek: |

I had the same thing happen years ago with my Myshkha, by then an elderly girl of almost 11. They removed the tooth immidietly, and then cut the abcess to drain it. This was the only dental work she ever had done in her life, and still had all but a few incisors. |
I've not had any experience with this particular problem but I know for helping drainage, you should use warm compresses. Try and make it as warm as you can. I wished I lived closer to you, I could send you a collar but it would take a few days. I hope the ER vet can help you with this. I would think that an ER facility would have someone they can contact for something like this. :confused: |
A big misconception is the think a dog reacts to pain as we humans...there is not way a human could ignore an abcessed tooth..eat and act like nothing is wrong...dogs will..but I cannot being to count the times people have told me their adult dog turned back into a playful puppy once they had a dental done.. I would not do a root canal...dogs so well with missing teeth... |

sorry to hear you are dealing with this... my guy had the same thing a few months ago... however, we removed the tooth right away, that way the vet was able to clean out the infection from the inside and after that it cleaned up in no time... in the meantime try putting a warm cloth on the wound, that helped my guy feel better! |
