I am so glad Brodie is feeling better!

He will get wonderful care at Cornell. Dr. Center has an amazing reputation. It makes no sense to try to get him to U of Tennessee with Cornell so close to you.

I realize this isn't my thread... but as I am also planning LS surgery in the future, the difference most important to me is not the distance, and costs are similar, but the choice of procedures... which is best? So I have some homework to do! As may others considering this type of surgery.

For anyone that has been reading this and also suffering with a sick puppy... I found this site which explains a lot about shunt surgery and your dogs life expectancy after

It looks really good if they can get the shunt to close!

I would think both are of fairly equitable distance from you! From what I have read I think it is largely based on how large your dog is, how many shunts they have, and how large the shunt is. The procedure done at Cornell seems ideal for very small dogs, while the procedure at UT seems ideal if your dog is large enough to have it performed. The one thing I like about the procedure at Cornell is that they will see if it is constricting too much during surgery and will know for sure within 2-24 hours post surgery and are then able to go in and fix it. If you have a constrictor on it this may not show up for several months and by then more shunts may have popped up. The not being certain if it would eventually constrict too much and injure my pup would have me in a fit of stress for months! Of course, the stats on doggie survival with the surgery look great there as well! I think both have their pro's and con's.

Brodie is completely back to his normal self!

AND my vet apt at Cornell got bumped up to this Wednesday!!! Fingers crossed it will be a single little shunt that is easy to fix!!!! I'm so nervous

His CT got pushed back to today because of an emergency that required all of the anesthesiologists. Brodie and I got to spend the night together and are getting ready to check in again today.
