awww darn it. Those pics of Yoda just breaks my heart. His eyes show so much he doesnt feel well. Still sending prayers, good thoughts and yorkie kisses for Yoda to get better.

The first pic he's all "erm, hey YTers, not feelin' so great, but hi" and the second pic he's all "Dad, thanks for bustin' me outa the hospital for the night!" -- so great to "see" him! :)

I'm so sorry to hear Yoda isn't feeling well. Those pics of his sweet little face and sad eyes choked me up. I'm sending prayers for the entire family, and some extra get well lovins for Mr. Yoda. Get well soon, sweetie!

LuvMySissy, Ellie May, and Wylie's Mom: Thanks for the information! We're going to ask about the Spec cPL test tomorrow for sure... and ask about the other things too.

miabellaamoure & Phoebe: PLEASE don't worry about it, it wasn't the PB treats you gave Winky in the GE... Thanks for the good wishes!

I do have the bloodwork labs scanned, and if anyone is interested I'd be happy to share them...

Here's a couple of pix of him tonight in my arms with the catheter still in his leg, as he'll go back tomorrow and they thought it best to leave it in...
what food did they send you home with? What meds? This same thing happened to dex he was sent home every night and back every day for fluids for 3 days. Was it vomitting or diarhea as dex only vomitted? He was given tramadol for pain i see but usually for vomitting they are giving cerenia these days for this.

I hope he gets better soon but this one takes a while to bounce back from and the important thing is to keep him from relapsing

many vets have in house spec cpli now as if you send out it takes 3-4 days for results and the tli comes back faster than cpli - tli tests for epi and cpli tests for pancreatitis

sounds like pancreatitis still to me and the electrolytes etc are off if excessive vomitting and diarhea as they get dehydrated

what is the fat percentage on the food you are feeding? Dex is on 8% fat diet now after having pancreatitis

I'm so sorry to hear this, some pancreatitis is just hereditary, and nothing that you did caused it. Yoda looks so sweet in those pictures, I'm praying he gets better real soon, and you find a diet that works for him.

Yoda's back at the vet this morning. The vets said he couldn't eat yesterday, so we didn't get sent home with any food at all. Nor did we get any meds for him for home. Yoda just had a bit of water. Prior to the vet visit yesterday, there was a bit of vomit, just yellow bile each of the past two days. There was no diarrhea, but his last poop was black, so there may have been blood in that poop. We unfortunately didn't save that poop.

The Darwin's raw food we get ranges from minimum 7 to 10% (of the packages we haven't used at least) in fat content, at least that's what the packaging says...

I will keep your little Yoda in my prayers. It is so upsetting when these little guys are ill, but they are little troopers...hopefully he will recover quickly.

what about the treats and california natural ? and any high fatty food in human foods given? usually a reaction is within 12 hrs of eating something so what was eaten 12 hrs prior to first vomitting episode? it can be accumulative or acute though but that would be my first concern was 12 hrs prior

Wet (canned and raw) food is so full of moisture that the only way to compare it to kibble and get a real protein, fat, and fiber % is to convert it to a dry matter basis. So with the water removed, the % will be different. This (dry matter basis) will have to be figured for any food given to Yoda (if pancreatitis has been confirmed). To do this, you just divide the protein by the recipricol of the moisture.

So the chicken formula is 10% fat. To convert it, divide 10 by the recipricol of the moisture which is 29 (moisture is 71%..100-71) 10 divided by 29 is 34%. So this food is 34% fat. Does that make sense?

Just a little FYI: Often when pups have pancreatitis, the liver enzymes will be elevated. Hopefully if Yoda does have pancreatitis they will stabilize when the amylase and lipase do.
I have had quite a few episodes of pancreatitis over the years with my own pups and my fosters and this was often the case.

I just saw this thread and feel so bad that Yoda is ill! I will be praying for his recovery. Poor baby. I know this must be so very scary for you. Hugs to you and yours. Get well wishes to Yoda!

Yoda is back home tonight, he's still a bit lethargic, but he was able to eat a bit. The vet gave us Royal Canin Digestive Low Fat LF. He is to get famotidine (Pepcid AC) 2.5mg by mouth twice daily.

He was diagnosed with pancreatitis, and Yoda got an abdominal ultrasound today that showed bladder and kidney stones. He got more IV fluids, medications for pancreatitis and pain control today. We will focus on the pancreatitis first, then see what the options are for the bladder and kidney stones. It would be very painful if he had to pass it himself, the other option the vet said would be surgery to remove them... :(

He is due back tomorrow for more monitoring, and hopefully tomorrow will be the last day at the vet during the day.
