![]() My little girl woke up early this morning and threw up her food, and my husband discovered her next to it weak with whitish gums. She's had fleas recently, and had just went to the vet yesterday morning to get her meds for them, and I read online that they can drain the blood fast in a small dog, and cause this. we quickly gave her a bath with flea shampoo. She seemed to come around, and I put the flea meds on her. After her bath, she seemed very energized and wild again. We watched her close for an hour and she was nuts, aka back to normal. Her gums and toung were pink again. We left to run some errands, and came back about an hour later, and she'd been napping, and was normal, jumping around and happy, even trying to jump on the couch to get our breakfast! Then we sat on the couch to watch a show, and she slept between us for about 20 minutes, and when we went to get up, she was weak again, and her gums gray/white. We held her and lay her down to rest, and after a little while she came around, even ate some food for me. I've been checking her skin, and she feels as hydrated as normal, but we've used a syringe to shoot some water down her throat just to be safe. She keeps having these spells where she's absolutely fine and normal, and her gums and toung all look healthy, then she gets all weak and her gums are pale. While she's weak, she's very aware, moving her head and ears as we move around, even walking if prompted. Then after a while, she's normal and fine again. This morning she threw up food, and then a few minutes ago she didn't care to even move to throw up white foam. She's now just cuddled in a blanket on the couch not feeling well ![]() This morning we also gave her water and nutri-cal but she only had it in her for a short minute before she threw it up. She kept the food down she ate for mea earlier though. Any ideas?

![]() I can't get her to the vet until tomorrow after 2pm. I sent her doctor an e-mail. (Holly survived Parvo and Hypoglycemia last winter at 5 months old, hasn't had a problem since.) My vet had trained me to be a vet tec after all her problems last winter, and gave me meds and tools if we needed them, would Baytril help? I have that and IV's. I'm just trying to figure out what to do 'til I can get her to the vet...

![]() About 20 minutes ago, she got up and was feeling better again, gums and tongue pink. She just ran by actually! She also just ate for me and tried to nip off our arms trying to get our popcorn! I don't know why she's doing this! It's really frustrating and draining. She'll be sickly, then sleep for an extended time, then she'll be great! Like she's never been down! Then she gums go back from pink to pale, and she's down for the count again.....anyone ever heard of this?? To go from one extreme to the other like that??

![]() Yeah, I know pale gums are an emergency after all we went thru with her having parvo and hypoglycemia. I had to take her to the vet everyday for a month and a half before they trained me to give her meds and care for her at home. Thanks for your imput, I have to work this morning, and I'm going to call the vet on my break to see what our doctor has to say.

![]() I would agree she probably needs to go to the vet Also agree with other posters who observe that they can get tapeworms from fleas. This happened to us. Remy did vomit, but he also had symptoms evident in his stool - IE - "white rice kernels" he did not have white gums. Here is a website that explains the worm situation in very good detail Tapeworms of Dogs Further, you can by OTC deworming medicine that addresses this, the active ingredient you are looking for is "praziquantel". It is a single does, Sargents Worm-X has the active ingredient relating to Flea-sourced tape worms and is available OTC for $11.00 Good luck!

YT 3000 Club Member | ![]() I personally would use regular dawn dish washing soap for the fleas rather than the flea shampoo, and wait no less than 2-3 days for fleas meds. I would definately take her to the vet something is not right. |
