I may loose my girl - lung cancer? Hi, I have 2 yorkies, siblings, and they're 9 years old. My girl has been sick for a few weeks. Hubby took her to the vets and an xray revealed a mass in her lung. She was also wheezy and had a non-productive cough. Because of expenses, we decided to try a round of antibiotics because the vet suspected pneumonia. She was doing good and showed improvement until 2 days ago. She returned to the harsh hacking. Hubby took her back today for an xray and the mass has doubled. The vet took blood and sent that off for sampling. Tomorrow depending on the results, she will have some test that involves them putting her under for a few minutes, filling her lung to get some kind of sample. This test alone may kill her. She is a good girl and I don't want her to suffer. It is horrible to watch her gasp for breath. I am at work and trying to maintain control of my tears. I'm mainly posting to vent because I know we can only wait to see what happens. Thanks for reading.

Just wanted to send prayer's for your baby in hopes she will get well. Maybe it's just phenomonia and can be taken care of with antibiotics. Hugs,

may loose my girl - update - lung mass - steroids? Thank you so much for your support! It means so much. I found out the procedure is a trachial wash. After doing research, we realized how invasive it is. After much debate, my husband and I decided not to do this. I talked to the vet and he shared some preliminary blood work results. My dog, Adele, doesn't have elevated white bloods cells which indicate there isn't an infection. Before Adele's first round for suspected pneumonia, I thought she had allergies and was giving her benedryl. She was responding well to this, but then when she began wheezing and we felt popping in her lungs, we brought her to our vet. That's what began this cycle. After a good conversation with the vet, he is going to consider putting her on steroids, prednisone, and an antibiotic. I will search the forums but would appreciate anyone's feedback regarding your experience with steroids. The vet says this is a hail mary pass, but hubby and I feel this is a good step for us all. He got laid off in January and we're living on my salary. These vet bills will hurt, but we feel we need to keep going for a while longer. Adele's symotoms: large mass in her lung as shown by xray dry, unproductive cough/hacking That's it! She's eating well, walks (as soon as she coughs once, she gets carried the rest of the way), plays and has her happy ears. Thank you!

I am so sorry to hear about Adele's health problem. I would absolutely go ahead with the steriods to see if it helps her. Short term steriods are usually perfectly safe. It's long term use that can cause other issues like diabetes, Cushings, etc. If steriods can make her more comfortable and give her a good quality of life for awhile, it is definitely worth a try.

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | I truly hope that yr next step will help with Adele's health problems! So sorry that she is going through this & for you as well. You are doing the very best to ensure that she doesn't suffer through any procedures that are considered while trying to figure out what the best options are. I wish you the very Best! Hopefully, steroids will make a difference. Sending Prayers for Adele!
