| Yorkie Ears Good day, I have a Yorkie that has blocked ears. As in the ears channel is swollen shut. We suspect that this is due to allergies and as such have drastically changed her diet and am trying to give her as much exercise as possible. The vet wants to perform an operation called a "Total ear Ablation", which really seems barbaric. Has anyone had similar problems and if so what did you do. I cannot tell you how distressing it is and at the moment I am just trying to get as much info as possible before we take such drastic steps. Thanks. |

| She has always had trouble with her ears, but they have been blocked for about a month now even with repeated trips to the vet and antibiotic ear drops (which helped a bit). I have been reading about apple cider vinegar and water and sometimes alcohol (to dry) as a daily wash for the ears. And Whole milk yogurt daily to boost the immune system. Also stop feeding grain. Also heard about garlic salt in the ear, but that worries me a bit. |

| Bumping this for you. Before I'd allow a vet to do that to my furbaby, I'd find a specialist. That is such a drastic step to take....such a permanent one.

| Have they tried prednisone or an anti-inflammatory? Benadryl? Oral antibiotics? I agree that surgery is a radical step. Can you get a second opinion?

| goodness I'd go see another vet for sure before agreeing to this procedure. I don't know how I feel about that, it seems very outrageous |

| This seems really intense and hard core. I would get 2-3 opinions before i would permanently remove ANYTHING. This sounds very intense and 'end stage'. If you are truly at this place, make sure you have every confidence in the skill of your surgeon...for anethesia, before/after care and details during surgery. |
