| Please help! Kimchee is vomitting/dry heaving Earlier today my puppy Kimchee vomited out of nowhere. She was playing with her toys and suddenly started dry heaving. It looked as if she was choking and trying to throw something up. She finally threw up and it was clear liquid and her breakfast (rice and chicken). She was taken to the vet by my girlfriend (I had to go to work). On the way there my girlfriend told me she was still dry heaving and then had foam on her mouth. The vet kept her for a few hours to monitor her and did some x-rays. X-rays showed no obstruction but apparently a lot of gas. My girlfriend went back to the vet to pick up Kimchee and they gave her some medicine for the gas. They never gave her any clear instructions as to what to do if this keeps happening. They just gave her a list of ER vets since they close at 7pm. They told her Kimchee was all better. Of course, when they get home my girlfriend calls me and tells me Kimchee is still dry heaving! She was also burping. So maybe it IS gas? Any other ideas of what this can be? Should I take her to the ER vet tonight if it doesn't stop? Kimchee is 4 months old and weighs 3.5lbs. She's a Maltese-Yorkshire mix. She's been having diarrhea after we changed her food from Nutro to Canidae. Lately, we've been feeding her rice and boiled chicken along with probiotic that the vet gave us. Her pooh has been firm since. Last edited by komutanon; 10-26-2009 at 05:48 PM. |

| The vet is closed and my girlfriend tried to call the ER vet for advice but they said they couldn't say unless she brought her in. Just got off the phone with my girlfriend and she says Kimchee is sleeping right now but she was still dry heaving a little before she fell asleep. |

| All they told us was that she probably has a lot of gas. They didn't mention anything else. My girlfriend has the impression that they don't know what is wrong with her. |

| That sounds nasty! No, Kimchee sounded more like she was dry heaving. Like how I sound with my head in the toilet after drinking too much Johnny Walker. |

| Kimchee is not around other dogs. The only time is when we shop at Petsmart or Petco. We have never had her boarded or even taken her to a dog park. The vet didn't say anything about kennel cough and I believe it's pretty easy to diagnose. Nevertheless, I'll keep an eye out for those other symptoms. Quote:

| hmm ok well I hope she gets better.. and honestly if she still does it and throws up I would take her in. Its better to be safe than sorry. Esp when dealing with a puppy!! Maybe take her to a different vet.. sounds like the one you took her to didnt really give you too much information.

| I wish I could give you more advice.. Yeah I know... Puppies are hard... I went through a lot of money with Peanut LoL when he was a puppy!! I was completely OCD with him, but he was so small I didnt want anything to happen Im sure its nothing to be too worried about. I think if you go and talk to the vet yourself you will understand a little more. Keep us posted! I hope she gets better soon!!

| Update: The vet had given us anti-gas medicine and some kind of antibiotic. She also has us feeding her a Purina EN Gastroenteric Canine Formula canned food. Turns out she vomited 1 more time last night. Then at 2am she had diarrhea. Still had the dry heaves which now sound to me like violent hiccups. Other than that, she was still behaving like normal so I decided to wait till morning to call the vet. In the morning she had diarrhea again which was green. I guess it's from the new canned food the vet gave us. She still has episodes of the violent hiccups and I can hear gurgling in her abdomen from across the room. She has also been burping and farting. The vet followed up with us and pretty much told us she still thinks it's gas but she doesn't know why it started. We're supposed to wait it out a couple of days and if it doesn't get better then we should bring her in. What could be the cause of all this gas? |

| Maybe she ate something she wasn't supposed to? Momo does it all the time & he'll vomit, have gas, bloated tummy, & I give him some pepcid ac & he'll be fine. I wonder why antibiotics were given. It sounds like what ever she ate, came out (the green stuff). Does she have access to any plants in the house? Yeah, Momo used to eat our plants too, good thing they weren't poisonous. Hope your baby girl feels better soon.
