Please anyone out there with advise please help me. Haleigh my 2 year old yorkie has always had this little cough when she get excited or plays to rough. The vet once had told me she prop had a collapsing tracrea, and to monitor it. Well as of last weekend she starting really coughing/hacking. I called the vet today and they are giving me cough med, hopefully this helps. Does anyone have a bad case and any advise to offer..... Please help

It's caused by a soft or collapsed trachea. When they get excited and have to take in more air, it makes a honking sound. There really isn't anything that can be done for this. I wouldn't give any cough meds.

Im confussed the vet today gave me a cough med for her to take.....You suggest not giving her meds,??? She is coughing and hacking every 5 mins, something has to be done, im afraid she cant breathe.

You can ask your vet about giving you a steroid prescription, it may improve a lot.
If he is suspicious of Kennel cough he will give you antibiotics. Otherwise you should have your examined again by a vet.

OK thank you .. Im going to call them again today, they gave me termeral-p which has helped maybe alittle bit with cough, but not much, now she has started a weezing after she plays, it sounds like she has got a cold......

I am just curious , but she may have a cold and that just aggravates the problem.
