| Little Man having trouble with back legs Our 5 year old yorkie is having trouble with his back legs. We noticed a month or so ago that he is having trouble with instability. He can be walking along and he will fall over. It's more dominate on the left than right. Even when we had him to the groomer she noticed that he was having trouble since his last grooming session. He's unable to jump up on anything, not able to use stairs very well, has a wide stance with his back legs. Can't stand very well on the back legs to look out the window, and when it comes to our hard woods floors forget that he can't even walk on them. He seems to be almost able to do the splits with them. Not in any pain. Took him to our vet and they wouldn't even mess with him. Said it was either a pinched nerve or a disc out in his back. The referred us on to an emergency vet. They too do not know what is going on other than it's neurological. They did a myelogram, CT, spinal tap, and nothing. He spent 5 days with them, and then he came home and has to be kenneled at all times except for when he goes out and then we have to carry him in and out. They didn't give him any meds, said they didn't want to mask anything with them. Not really sure what we should do. We are to call them in a couple of weeks and let them know how he is doing. Has anyone else had this problem with their Yorkie. He's been such a trooper through all of this. |

| My sister had a similar problem with her yorkie-poodle. 1st I would go see an orthopedic specialist right away. For now I would follow the vets advice, that is what my sister had to do for her dog, it took about 3 monts of crate rest but but she is fine now. Back injuries in dogs are no different then people, it just takes a lot of time, patience, rest, and it will opefully work itself out. Good Luck |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | at the ER did he see an emergency doctor or a neurologist? A neurologist should be able to figure out what is going on. Did he have an MRI done? the last place i worked was with vet specialists. the neurologists always sent the patients for an MRI when back problems were in question.

| Yes he had an MRI and it showed nothing, the closest neurologist we are told is in Kansas City. We are just doing the wait and see for now. They have ruled out GME AND LP AND CEREBELLAR ABIOTROPHY. Last edited by LITTLELOUIESMOM; 10-04-2009 at 10:51 AM. |

| I would look for a board certified neurologist and have him evaluated as soon as possible.
