I would say fish diet inorder as low in sodium low in fat and easily digestible but the purines not too sure on that -- I would join a pancreatitis group, k9kidney and liver shunt group to learn about all 3 on the yahoogroups.com. To supplement liver you would use denomarin which is sam-e and milk thistle - low fat for pancreas and low sodium to help the kidneys. I would juice zucchini daily to cleans liver and juice celery with the zucchini to cleans the urinary tract. This is what i would do if were mine. My friend has a yorkie that is a liver shunt surgery survivor with only 25% use of kidney and doing great for many years and she has a nutritionist you could consult or susan davis many use here as well - diet is going to be very important and spring bottled water I would change 4 times a day to entice more drinking as mine drink it more when it is fresh Last edited by dwerten; 09-19-2009 at 11:49 PM. | |

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | OMG Kim ! I am so sorry Hallie is sick, that poor darling. It sounds like you're on the right track, and Internists are wonderful to consult during these complicated times (that's what I did w/ Wylie's Cushing's/thyroid etc). Bc of her polyuria/polydipsia - did they mention Cushings at all? Bc those other blood levels can be off w/ undiagnosed Cushings as well. If they do think there is a chance of Cushings, the first step would be Urine cortisol-creatinine ratio - but the urine MUST be caught at home, while the dog is not stressed. Just something to think about. Please email me here or at my personal address if you need ANYTHING. Hugs and love to you and the babies!

| Hallie's results came back after 2 weeks on medication and her blood pressure, kidney levels are down but not enough so we upped her dosage of medication. The medication has made her incontinent at night and when she is sleeping but that's ok with me, I have her in diapers and a onesie at night. She is going back to the specialist here on Nov. 6 for another round of testing. I am moving and am looking for a new internal medicine specialist but the one we see now is helping me with that. She has started eating the prescription food better and has put back on some weight so we are doing ok. She still picks on Simon and steals his soccer balls |

| I'm so sorry to hear that sweet little Hallie is having health issues. I will be praying for her...and you. Hugs to you. It is so scary to have an ill furbaby. Glad to hear she's still playing with Simon and that she has put on a little weight!
