I'm sorry no one has come on to help. I see you posted at 5:15. I wish I could help you with advice but really do not have any knowledge of diabetes in dogs. My friend adopted a litter of Labs that were diabetic. I'll send him an email right now as it's too late to call him. Hopefully he'll be online. If not I'm sorry and will see what I can find out in the morning from him. This Yorkie really should have been taken right to the vet. Elaine

Urgent 16year old diabetic Hi Elaine Still never did get a reply.... but sadly my friends dog was put to sleep this morning when she took her to the vet - she had an infection and urgently needed a hysterectomy, but vet said because of her age she would not come through anesthetic, so sadly she was put down - all are terribly upset at the loss. I tell me friend 'thank god we were given memories' But on a happy note, they are taken Anmaco Black Pearl Sweeny when he is old enough to go. Thanks for replying, at least you did! x

I am so sorry about your friend's dog. Diabetes is hard to deal with because so many other things can go wrong. We lost a mini schnauzer to diabetes in 07. He was on human insulin, 2 shots a day. We were completely devoted to taking care of him, seeing that he eat on time, shots were given on time etc. It is hard to have a special needs dog but, then again they are special. I took him in on a Friday because he was throwing up from pancreatis. Thought I would bring him home on Monday after being on IV fluids the whole weekend. Turned out we had to put him down because of so many other things going on. It is heart wrenching to lose one. Again, I am so sorry. Sixteen years is a great life though. Max would have been 14 in Aug. when he passed away the day after Mother's Day. They know how much they are loved.
