I guess I am confused. What exactly did the daughter do that was so wrong? I thought that the other dog jumped up and that made the puppy fall on the floor? Where is the negligence there? |

Gennie, I'm sure your daughter is beside herself with remorse and agree that she doesn't need to be grounded to make the point. Perhaps by learning this lesson now, she will be able to avoid a worse accident in the future. I will be keeping you all in my prayers. |
Praying for you and your baby. Please let us know when she get out of surgery.. |
We're praying for you and your little baby:nursing::hands: Jackie & Sophie :aimeeyork |
Sending well wishes to baby Bijou  |
Any news yet? Please let us know. Hope everything is going ok. |
I'm so sorry to hear about your little girl. My little guy broke his 2 front legs at a year old. He had plates put in and they were removed a few months later. He healed so quickly and is 100% today and is now 6. I hope your little girls is ok. My thoughts are with you :-). If you have any questions about the surgery or the recovery please feel free to message me. |
She pulled through!!!!! Good news: she did very well through surgery! Bad news: her diarrhea is now bloody so I'm letting her stay with the emergency vets over night. I was so upset over her staying over there because she's so young and hasn't had all her puppy shots so I was very fearful of a sick dog coming in with parvo. There was an animal control shut down for a while due to a parvo out break not far from here. So they have her in the cat ward. I'm good with that. Less noise and not as dangerous for her. I totoally agree on my daughter not being grounded and was shocked my sis said she should be. And yes, I was upset with her because I didn't want her having Bijou on the couch. I have learned from other's mistakes. Q: In everyone's opinion (since they told me they couldn't test for parvo at the surgeon's office) could the bloody pooh just from stress...please be honest. I know there's a chance it's parvo, but I just want to know if it's associated with stress too. I check with emergency vets and in the two and a half hours she's been with them no pooh. That's good, right? Sorry, I didn't get on sooner. We took the other pups for a long walk and then DH and I went for a very much needed drink. Thank you all for the kind words of support and the prayers / well wishes. It's helped us tons more that you probably realize! |
Sorry about your bijou. Glad the surgery went well, and yes bloody diarrhea can be caused by stress and also some pain meds. My yorkie had dental surgery 2 weeks ago and came out of surgery with bloody diarrhea that lasted 3 days due to stress. They gave her some meds to stop it and then she was fine. They said some of it could have come from her pain meds also. Please keep us updated on your baby. |

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!! That's what my thoughts were, as it started last night after all this. But I know how easily they catch Parvo too. DH says everyday she's a live she'll just get stronger and stronger. I've been so stress over all this. Encluding the being upset with my daughter part. She really is such a good kid that I couldn't believe this happened with her. She has always been an honor student and we talk so freely with each other about everything, so that's why I can't believe this happened. She has no idea how disappointed I was, I only shared that with you all, as I know other Yorkie lovers would understand. But I did talk with her about being a better protector of Bijou. I truely think she will be more careful and protective in the future. I'm so glad I have you all for support through all this!!! |
I am so glad Bijou is through surgery and doing well. Stress can certainly bring on bloody diahrea. As hard as it is to leave her tonight she is where they can monitor her. Praying she is back home with you tomorrow. |
 So happy your baby came through the surgery all ok. She has had, and still will have, many people praying for her. Here's praying she will have a fast recovery, and be back to herself in no time. :hands: :hands: :hands: Have one for me !! :beermug: |
I have to say I so Love you guys and yes, I'm pretty numb right now...not one to drink a lot but after all this I'm on my (shouldn't say the #) daquiri and feeling fine! Love and Hugs to you all. I'm so happy my youngest baby's alive!!!!! Guess I'm doing something right after all. Thank you God and Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes!!!!!! :yorkietal We need an icon that says YTer rule!!! Because you all do!!!!! :yorkiesar I love this icon! They really are the best at stealing our hearts :p |
Please, don't be too hard on your daughter. Yes, you told her not to put the puppy on the couch, but can you imagine what she is going thru? 17 is a very difficult age, and they take things much harder than we do. I'm so glad your puppy is doing better, and you will be amazed at how fast they bounce back from a broken leg. I have a poodle that jumped off a deck (my fault) and broke her leg. The vet said the break was clean put a cast on it and said it would heal in 6 weeks. That was last August, after months of the vet telling me it would heal, on New years eve she had to have her leg amputated because gangrene set in. She does very well on three legs, but there were several weeks we thought she would not make it. Praise God your vet had enough sense to plate and put rods in her leg! I wish mine did... |

I just posted on your page and then came on here and found out your little Bijou is having surgery. I am soooo sorry. Pray that the leg will heal and that the bloody stools will stop and Bijou will be home with you in a very short time. ~Joanne~ |
Bijou's over night I just spoke with the emergency vet. Bijou did wonderfully over night, no diarrhea and urinating fine. They said she's a feisty one! I said thank god she is! I know I've got my work cut out for me keeping her calm in the crate this next month, but I'll have to put on my tough love hat and make sure she doesn't stand up on just the back legs. So smaller crate and no x-pen for now. Before I left her yesterday they let me have a few minutes cuddle time with her alone. I begged her to be strong for me and fight to live and she did!!! Now I'm gonna live up to my promise of giving her a wonderful life full of love. I'm leaving for the surgeon's in a little while. They didn't tell me when to come in so I'll call as soon as they open in a few minutes. I'm so thankful she's alive and doing well. I can't say thank you to you all enough for how grateful I am to you all for being there for me to vent to and be understood and for all the prayers! I'll try to post some photos later today as a token of my appreciation as I know how much we all love photos. :D |

The diarrhea has stopped and no more bloody stools (according to the e vets). My vet told me yesterday to do a bland diet too. I've already got the chicken out and defrosting. Thank you!!! |

Oh, thank you Gennie, for taking the time to update us. I've been thinking of you all night. I'm so happy to hear she is doing well. I look forward to your post that she is back home safe in your arms. And just a word of unasked for advice. Be sure to let your daughter help with Bijou's recovery. It will do wonders to rebuild her confidence and to show her that you still trust her. Even if it's something small to begin with, let her help, it will go miles to strengthening ya'll relationship. :) |

Very glad to here that Bijou is doing well! She must be a strong little thing. :) |
I'm so glad to hear Bijou's did so well with the surgery. Sending lots of prayers and hugs to her! |
So glad your baby is doing better. We have 2 yorkies and 2 schnauzers, and when my oldest (toy schnauzer) was about 10wks old or so, the other one bounced her off the bed. I should have known not to have had her on the bed but I was sitting right there never expecting something like that to happen. She is tiny like the yorkies, so she had a bad break. The vet told me puppies heal alot faster than older dogs with less complications. She would run and play and hold her little cast out and just fly around the back yard. lol!!! She would hold it out to tee tee and when the cast was taken off, for a while she still held her little leg out. It was so funny. I'm sure that baby will be fine. I know how it is to worry about them. Mine go to the vet if they sneeze!!!! Will pray for that baby and she is going to do fine. I know your daughter feels terrible. I know I did. We just do things sometimes and don't think. Now I watch mine like a hawk. She will be real protective over that baby for now on, I bet. Bless her heart, she must feel so guilty and like I said we all do things we wish we could take back later. Give that baby a kiss from, Lexi, Kayla, Tina and Dudley. |
We're Home!!!! Bijou looks 90% better than yesterday...well, so do I for that matter :p Her personality's back and she's thriving!!! She had tons of kisses for us when we picked her up. :D They said she ate like a little piggy this morning. So that's good news as well. There's no cast on her leg, as it's been plated/pinned and then there's the incision. I let my Garrett and Barley smell her through her crate door when we got home and she gave them kisses too. Then my daughter feed her a little cottage cheese and some water. Now she's resting comfortable in her crate in my bedroom (so I know there's nothing to excite her and have her standing). I agree that my daughter needs to be part of the healing process for her as well. She's puppy sitting tomorrow while I go back to work. I know she's learned what tough love means now and she won't give into Bijou's wants in order to keep her safe. She really is a great kid! She's making a welcome home cake for Bijou as I'm typing. Said she knows she can't eat it, but wants to have a celebration that she's home and getting better. I've got her chicken and rice cooking and will start her on that today as well. Thanks tons for the thoughts and prayers. I'll try to sneak a few photos when we get her up for medicines and the cold compresses. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!! |
That's wonderful!! I'm sure you're so relieved to have your baby home! Wishing her a speedy recovery:getwellso! Jackie & Sophie :aimeeyork :Pawprint::Pawprint::Pawprint: |
I am praying for you and your baby, and especially for your daughter who I am sure is terribly distraught and feeling horribly guilty (without any added pressure from you). I used to be a Vet. Tech and delt often with surgery. There is absolutely no cause what-so-ever for anyone in the Vet's office to be anything but kind and consoling to you and I would report anyone to the Senior Vet within that office. Anyone who has a pet, I dont care if it is a worm, for a pet, deserves kindness, sympathy and the understand (in a warm manner) of what is going to be done to your pet, and why. That your pet will be isolated after surgery and the care it will be given. I hope all turns out perfectuly for you. These little guys are really tough for their size and have a lot of will and need to please you. I am sure he will be fine in time. Bless you and I wish you and your daughter the very best, and you tell that little baby "to go for it!" Pipp |

I did think about reporting her and one of the male clerks (who totally ignored me when I walked up to his desk to text on his cell phone...very professional, huh?), but I don't know who I'd report them to, as I think she and the other doctors own the facility. It's Bay Area Veterinary Surgery. Maybe the better business bureau can help me on that one. However, I have a recheck with them in 4 weeks (going to my own vet to have the stitches taken out, as I want to see that lady as little as possible). You know she didn't ever come out and see me when I went to get Bijou, and I seen her in the parking lot at her car so she wasn't busy. She spoke with me on the phone this morning on after care, but that was it. I really appreciate your kind words and wish that you was the one taking care of my baby. |
:D I am soooo happy Bijou is home with her mommy, where she should be. Now for a speedy recovery. :cheer: |
Glad to hear Bijou is home and doing well. You have a tough few weeks ahead of you with lots of cage rest and TLC. I'm sorry the vet and other guy were rude to you. I was gonna say that maybe yesterday she was rude because she had a very busy day ahead of her and she was anxious. Seeing that Bijou's surgery wasn't until 5pm the vet probably did at least 4-5 other surgeries before her. who knows. but with the rudeness today i have no excuses for you. it is typical that the vet doesn't see you upon pick up. Did a tech talk to you about recovery tho? That's what i used to do. The surgeons were in surgery so when people came to pick up their pets the surgery techs would go down and speak with the owners first and go over all the aftercare instructions again (the vet goes over them on the phone before hand) becuase its a lot of take in. Then the tech brings you your pet. That kind of hospital is tough to work in...after 2 1/2 years i had to quit. i couldn't take the stress anymore. I'm not defending the hospital personnel tho. whatever stress you have, rudeness should never be directed toward a client or pet. hopefully the vet will be nicer to you at your recheck appt. i'm surprised the surgeon is letting you go back to your regular vet for suture removal because the surgeon should look at the leg 2 weeks post op to make sure everything is healing the way it should. Regular vets are great and all but the surgeon knows her stuff. where i worked this would never be allowed. |
