i see you are in new york are you near redbank ? dr green is an excellent internal medicine specialist my friend goes to - she is hard to get in but go there if it is near you

The blood test was done in the office and the vet said there was one specific test for the pancreas that came back positive. I am sorry, I feel so ignorant. The vet thinks it was caused by the high fat Hills LD/KD diet he was eating for his liver for awhile. He ate KD when he refused to eat the LD canned and the RC LS Hepatic formula. These are test results:

Red Bank, NJ is almost 2 hours from here. Joey does have an excellent internist at Oradell Animal Hospital, which is highly regarded here who has been treating his liver (and where he had liver shunt surgery in March)

Is pancreatitis going to be a lifelong problem now? I feel very overwhelmed on managing this disease with his liver. His last BAT was normal, but do I have to worry about him throwing another shunt also. His liver condition was congenital.

no right now treat the pancreas as that is your biggest issue now - they do go hand in hand as all organs can affect each other and why if he has a liver issue why it is more important to get him in NOW to your internal medicine specialist and if anything like this ever comes up again i recommend just going to your ims instead of your regular vet as they are much more equipped and educated to handle internal organs than a normal vet so please go to your internal medicine specialist NOW as i did not know about liver issue so this is more severe than i even thought :( does your ims have a 24 hr facility? you can manage the pancreas my dog has been fine for 3 years and you can feed the same food i am feeding for both pancreas and liver purina ha hydrolized soy as my mvd dog and my pancreas dog is on it but right now you need to get him in NOW please

where is the lipase and inhouse spec cpli? the amylase is not that high but i do not put too much credence in amylase and lipase -- what about triglycerides? actually really irrelevant your dog is in pain get him to your internal medicine specialist and ask about purina ha food for future diet for both pancreas and liver shunt. Also you may need to home cook dr dodds liver cleansing diet if this does not work -- sorry to be so pushy but your dog has alot going on and my experience is best in the hands of a specialist at this point as that is what i had to do to save my dogs life or he would have died at vets - due to pancreas and liver issues this is nothing to mess with and is very serious or i would not be so persistent. Did you call your ims when your dog was diagnosed? From now on anything serious just go to your ims as you can go direct at least you can here

he will not throw another shunt from pancreatitis - stop feeling overwhelmed and get him in for help now and you will feel much better knowing he is being monitored by a professional you trust as your vet i am NOT liking right now

It takes a couple of days to get the cPLI .. at least it does here. Those values do not look awful to me.

but the dog is in pain and vet confirmed pancreatitis and dog has liver shunt repair so nothing to mess with. There is an inhouse snap test for pancreatitis now so maybe he did this as some vets have this inhouse now so sounds like they did that and this is not a full cbc panel posted -- i would not mess with it at home from the pain described and dogs mask pain and this dog is showing extreme pain per poster

I did not say that there is nothing wrong. I only commented as to what I thought about cPLI and what I saw posted. He said there was not really any dehydration, so I am assuming the CBC was wnl. Who knows.
Honestly, it if were my pup and I were that concerned, I would not be asking on YT. I would simply go to the EC and be done with it. So, in that regard, your advice is on target.
Pancreatitis is a dangerous thing to mess with. I simply did not hear symptoms of it.
As for the pain, I did not think the dog was in constant pain...I read it as he was screaming when touched and I have seen that after injections which is what her vet told her it was.
I don't know.

sorry if i sounded bad was not meaning to just real concerned about this dog as it will not lay down is restless and crying out in pain so why i am so persistent in having op take in asap was not discounting what you were saying as the blood work did not look that off to me and i just learned on another group that there is an inhouse spec cpli test which i had not heard of and was glad to know as i hate waiting 3-4 days for spec cpli from lab as alot can happen in 3-4 days without a firm diagnosis. Please do not take offense as i was not intending that and your information is much appreciated as i always like reading your posts as well and we are definitely on the same page this little one needs to be with internal medicine specialist asap

Oh my goodness, please don't think that, I so much appreciate your advice and support. You are correct. Joey is only in pain when picked up and that is improving drastically today. Someone said it and it is true that i think he was reacting to anticipating the pain as that started right after the tiny kitten jumped on his back. The kitten is a tiny, skinny little thing at 5 weeks old, but he must have hit the injection site and Joey being the little drama boy he is, became fearful of that pain. Believe me, I would rush to Oradell if I were that worried. I feel better now. Joey is drinking water nicely and going outside to potty again. He is stable right now. I don't know the symbol for the lipase test and so bear with me and I will now post more test results.

did they do spec cpli inhouse? do not see lipase on here -- i thought you said he is standing in pain and not able to get comfortable? that is not a sign of injection site pain that is a sign of abdominal pain - they cannot lay down because it hurts them so they toss and turn or just stand there as it hurts them to lay down - is he doing this?
