By the 5th week it was hard to contain Hot Rod. I always thought that he was probably healed but the extra time was precautionary. And I think the doctors have a idea that the mommies and daddies do tend to lax up towards the end so the longer they do have them off, the better the healing process. But do ask your surgeon...Stedman'smommy surgeon had her doing physical therapy on Tatum, we didn't get any instruction for it. I think that the surgeon has the best feel for it since he's the one who knows exactly what shape the knee is in.
I did however ask (in the last 2 weeks) if I could have him do water therapy. We were going to be draining the hot tub and it seemed like a natural thing. The surgeon even told us no more than 5 minutes a session with that.

And again, our surgeon said the we could put him in a 3 x 3 area. Check with him and see if that might be a possibility. This would give him a little bit of stretching room.

yup, every surgeon is different so check with yours
The ones i worked for had strict rules but our rules required 3 walks a day and physical therapy 4 times a day. The surgeons wanted the leg to be exercised during the day to build up the muscles and keep the joint flexible. if the leg is casted for too long or not used then the muscles atrophy even more and it takes longer to recover.
