| Mucus in poop I need some advice. On Sunday our Grace had a really mucus poop, then had a little loose poop on monday. Yesterday she didn't poop at all and then today she had another mucus poop. The can be very stinky when it has mucus in it. She seems pretty normal otherwise... eating/drinking/playing. Recently we added another dog to our home (about 3 weeks ago) and he seems fine. I don't want to be "one of THOSE mommies" who takes her in for everything. (And we don't want to take her in and for the vet to say it is nothing.) What do you think? |

| I confess... I'm "one of those Mommies". Piece of mind is priceless. I don't think I would go to an emergency clinic if she is playing/eating/drinking and otherwise acting normal....but I would be on the phone, seeing if they could squeeze me in the very next day at our vet.

| I can't remember exactly why they get mucousy poop (there's several reasons), but I know for sure one of the reasons can be from too much protein in their diet. Too much protein also makes smelly poop.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Bella had the mucus poop last friday morning. She was running and playing and eating just fine but I took her in just incase she had parasites or something. She even had a spec of blood in it. Anyway, that's what made me take her in to be seen. They did a fecal and it came back negative. They just gave her a shot of fluid under the skin to make sure she doesn't dehydrate, that is possible when they get soft stools/diahrea. They also gave me some Kaopectate because it seemed she had an upset stomach, by the looks of her BM. Then they also gave me an antibiotic for her just to take precaution. She's just under 3lbs and had hernia repairs and was also 2 wks prior so our vet just wanted to make sure if there was something lingering we'd take care of it. I was told to give her the Kaopectate 3 times a day and then the antibiotic twice a day. I'm happy to say her BM's are back to normal! If it hasn't stopped, I would just call the vet and see what they say. Last edited by Lia; 08-13-2009 at 12:21 AM. Reason: Needed to add |
