| Eye infection! Help! I have a 10 week old litter of yorkie pups and one of them started holding his eye shut yesterday. He also was not quite himself although he is eating and drinking just not playing much with the other pups. Anyways, called the vet 1st thing this am and they couldn't get me in until 2:20. So he has a pretty bad eye infection. I'm thinking it happened during puppy play as he did yell pretty good the other day and I'm thinking that one of the other puppies got him in the eye. The vet couldn't say for sure how it happened. Anyways, he's on Clavomax - oral antibiotic and Atropine drops and an antibiotic eye ointment. Does anyone have any advice for me? Anyone ever experienced this? I can tell he isn't feeling so great... poor baby! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Aw, poor little guy! Did the vet say in addition to the infection, did he scratch his cornea a bit too? Usually (stress usually), if they're holding their eye shut, it might be scratched...but with "normal" eye infections (ie, conjuctivitis), there is the watering and often the greenish goop and a little smell. Both my dogs have had the latter type. Of course, maybe your little guy has both..and it sounds like the vet may think so too? At any rate, the ointment and drops should soothe. Hang in there, my guys were feeling better pretty quick!

YT 500 Club Member | Meg had an eye infection when I brought her home at 13 weeks. The doctor prescribed a gel to put on her eyes, and it cleared up within a couple days. She has been fine since. I can't remember the name of the medicine, but I could take a look at it when I get home. THe vet said to keep the medicine in case the infection came back, but like I said, so far, so good. I hope your little pup heals soon!

| You Should be fine doing the shots if the vet tell you he can have. Better be safe than sorry. If everyone in the litter is getting vaccinated you better get him on the same track. Good Luck !
