| my dog keeps licking his butt Hi I'm new here and need some help. My 2 year old male Yorkie has been constantly licking the area under her tale. Its really gross and starting to worry me and my parents. Once he starts licking there there's no way to get him to stop. After like 5 minutes or so he finally stops and then sometimes he does it again at night. He's had this problem for probably about 5 days now. Please help me and tell me if something is wrong with him. thanks PS sorry if i posted this in the wrong section. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is his poo okay? Is he dragging his butt on the carpet? Whatcha feeding? It could be clogged anal glands that need to be expressed... I would take him to the vet.

| I'd take him to the vet so they can look at him for you.

| I would think it's his glands or perhaps even worms.

| Even an unexpected flea... Sometimes even the best flea treatments leave a few living fleas or eggs that hatch. Guess where they like to congregate? Yup! Scooty Booty! |

| About how often do dogs usually need to have their glands expressed? Or does it vary widely from dog to dog? Thanks! -C

| Hope the dog is fine and stop licking but it does sound like his anal glands need to be extracted. My breeder taught me how to clean it and i do it regularly. He also gets done when he goes to the groomer, usually every other month for a total check, but i do a good maintenance in between grooming's. If i do not clean it for a month "stuff" comes out when i "squeeze it" . It smells very unpleasant but he seems happy after i do it.
