| She jumped off the couch and landed wrong. Immediately started crying. Vet said they see this all the time. I feel terrible and am not sure what to do. She is receiving excellent care but I am just not sure what to do. Vet said will know within 1 week how well the outcome will be from casting her vs orthopedic surgery. |

| Huhm.... My Penelope broke her leg in december 2007... very bad timing... dad just admitted to the hospital on christmas eve... it was a nightmare !!!!! I just dropped her off at my vets, explained to him my personal situation and told him to treat her as if she was his own.... THANK LORD i have a great vet that i know for years... a good friend i can say .... He decided that surgery in 3 days would be the best thing to do, and did... he had an specialist come in to his hospital and did it right there. She was home same day, easy care, we had to confine her to a crate, honestly i was in "automatic" pilot ... she is fine now, and she is our "ballerina" she dances on her back legs for minutes at a time... noboby can tell she has metal and screws in one of her back legs.... I am not sure if it will, but i hope this will give you some help. I am not sure if i would have decided for surgery right away ... or would try a cast ... But i am glad she the surgery right away ... healing was fast ... at least the dog was well.... XOXO

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | My Max (RIP) broke one front leg on 12/28 and the other on 12/30. The vet I went to casted him for 4 weeks then because he got gangarine splinted him until the end of March at which time neither of his legs had healed and she recommended putting him down. I then brought him to an orthopedic vet who said that he wished I had brought Max to him right away because Max's legs were so slender that the only way to get his legs to heal would be to put pins and plates in. Max had his surgery on June 1 and would have been walking around by mid July. I wish that I had gone to see the surgeon, but my vet was confident that she would be able to heal my Max.
